Worship Guitar | Play Interesting Chords
Nick is showing you a 1, 5, 6, 4 Chord Progression in the key of D. Those chords are: D, A, Bm, G. We will be going over 2 different ways to play this chord progression.
One way will demonstrate staying in a very tight spot on the fretboard and the other will be a bit all over the place. Which way is better? There’s really no way to answer that but to only say; whatever the song needs. Whatever band members you have during a giving set will also dictate which type you play. These triad types are referred to as “open-voiced triads” and “close-voiced triads”. We are only going over 2 different types but with these two types you can find your place in the mix very easily.

I'm seeing a whole lotta videos on "worship guitar" and I find the whole concept quite bizarre.
Firstly they continue the myth that worship IS the songs we sing in church when we know it's anything we do for His glory. Gladly the church I'm a part of has recently decided to stop using the term "worship leader" or "worship team" Instead we're simply called the music team or the band.
Secondly the idea that there are certain chords or riffs just for "Worship"..I am glad that the churches I've been in over 30ish have always been grateful any musicians willing to bring whatever skills and equipment they have to serve them. Admittedly there aren't many churches in my country that have the resources and people to run music as professionally as in your country.
I could go on, but having said that I'm always grateful to learn new ways to play chords to stop myslef from getting bored no matter what context I'm playing in
amazing lesson thank you so much
Learn where the root notes are at and you can move all these triad shapes up and down the neck in all 12 keys.
If I’m the only guitarist, and I’m using an EG, would I still be preferably using chords on the upper end of the neck so that I can create the full sound for the congregation? The only other instruments being played are keyboard and drums. I’m afraid of trying these other options and it not sounding full enough.
Your audio is sounding clean on the daw whereas mine is hot on the mixer. What am I doing wrong
what do you when a 2 or 3 or even a 7 comes in? do you use similar shapes?
THIS IS THE MOST HELPFUL VIDEO IVE SEEN AS SOMEONE DESCRIBED AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS VIDEO. Thank you so much sir
Thank you for posting this video! I have been playing for years, but have lacked the knowledge of different chord styles. I always revert to a barre chord or a traditional open chord. This video motivates me to expand my treasure chest and to try and apply these new chords (to me) going forward
How do you go about memorizing the music? I know that most worship songs are not that complicated. I tried once just writing them out in Nashville number system. But then on Sunday morning I lose my place and panic,
Thanks man! May I ask what telecaster is that? ????
What is the guitar that you are using? Telecaster specs?
Thank you so much man watched a lot of your videos recently and this helped me open my fretboard up so much ????????????
Thanks, “Nick Van Halen!”????. I gotta watch all these videos now.
Will these chords work on acoustic guitars? I tried but didn’t feel good when I strummed these chords on an acoustic.
Good stuff Nick. Not new to me but there are a few nuances you have added that are very helpful. ????????
Love it man I use those all time
???? ????
I've been utilizing triads, diads and inversions for quiet a while now and watching this video reminds me that there are still other shapes and etc. I want to suggest that there is a tab animation of chords in the screen. This would be very helpful for beginners growth and as well as the channel's.
Thanks Nick!!
I’m the complainer from before, this was excellent. Everything was very clear
This was very insightful. Thanks for sharing these tips
Thank you again! These EG2 videos are a gold mine.
