PRS Tempest GS Tube Amp Demo ft. Paul Reed Smith: The Perfect Sonic Storm | Sweetwater Exclusive
Showing off the PRS Tempest GS 50 and GS 100 amp heads, Paul Reed Smith himself joins Sweetwater’s sultan of soul Don Carr for an exclusive demo and interview. See the PRS Tempest GS amps at Sweetwater — the exclusive purveyor of this PRS performance power! ???? https://sweetwater.sjv.io/mOQ4oq
A note from Don Carr:
“The miking setup I used represents what I was hearing in the room: a big punch in the low end. The close-miked Shure SM57 and Royer 121 are visible, but the Neumann U 87 in the room is not. I placed it specifically to capture the low end I was hearing and feeling in the room.”

Seems like it is a tweaked, refined version of the JMOD-100 with Reverb, which is a good thing in my opinion. I love my JMOD after making a few tweaks to the tube selection to reduce gain in the overdrive channel. Having a real spring reverb on board makes it a baseline of everything I need in an amp to enjoy without any pedals.
How loud is it in the room? I found even at 100 watts you could run the JMOD at 3/4 volume with ease at home but found it loud enough in the last 1/4 turn to play in a gig.
If PRS would only shut his mouth,,,,meh.
Dude, im a Prs fanboy but the price on this is insane. Nice amp but it costs more then Mesa, Diezel, Two Rock, Triamp, Engl etc makes it what? Impossible to sell any? Should have called it the Alexander Dumble. 4300.00 for a 50w amp?!?! When you can get a plug in or pedal that sounds pretty damn close for under ALOT LESS…
What a cool amp! Love Don! ❣
Just don’t want a product with some d-bag name all over it
That thing sounds Fabulous. Weird how Vintage 30’s can work for different styles sometimes????
I have a Sonzera 50, I will say they are incredibly clean.
I’d rather have the old mesa trans Atlantic that have you the British and American amp sounds in one amp .
Tell me about that Silver Sky. I love the finish.
Me: still watching videos on a $4300 amp I know I’ll never be able to afford or buy even after phasing out my real amps for modeling and DAW plugins ????????
High quality? Sure. Unique enough sound to spend $4300? Nah. I can buy two really nice amps for that price.
Bring back the sweet 16 with a half power switch. My 15 watt blues jr is way too loud. No use for 50 watts. 1 to 5 watts is plenty
Price price price – way to much money- you’re kidding right –
Mann this is so cool! Thank you for not making this a short 6 minute video. Us gearheads want the backstory and the build knowledge of the amps! So cool to hear Paul talk about this process and roadmap of building, you can tell how much joy he gets from tweaking and working on tone for us to play and enjoy for years to come. Awesome!
That white 594 is the best looking guitar I’ve ever seen!
Sounds like PRS has finally built a good amp. Just sayin
I took the PRS factory tour a couple months ago and saw this on the shelf in their amp room.
The tour guide was really stoked about this amp but also kinda seemed like I maybe wasn’t really supposed to see it, so I’m excited to learn about this one and hear it in action! ????????????????
$4,300??? And i thought my Suhr PT15IR (that i like better) was expensive.
USA Core Silver Sky with tulip tuning buttons? ????
Might be my phone but it sounds a little too "hifi" like for me.
The $4300 price point is too steep for an amp like this. Should be around 2500-2700
awesome so now make it in 5 or 10 watts so actual people can get one bc nobody needs 50 watts anymore
Holy crap that thing sounds great. Price is steep but what a fat distorted tone.
Is the crowd that is all smoked up on weed going to hear the $4300 ?
Is the loop useable or like every other PRS amp?
For $4300 will it make me a sandwich too?
Sounds a bit like a Naylor. Good amp.
Ok, so it sounds like PRS is suggesting the OT core Steel might be Supermalloy. It's used in some HiFi amps and could have been used in Marshall PA amps intended for vocal reproduction. It's not so much the improved high freq clarity for guitar amps that generally use speakers that roll-off by ~5kHz, but that the saturation knee is more gradual than M6 Si Steel, which gives the amp a bigger/warmer/less-spikey sound.
Soooo—— two rock and amplified nation pricing, two rock and amplified nation model style, with the quality of the mt100, that fell apart after like 6 months for many users? Pass.
They need an SE line of amps
4300…yikess!
I don't know what old Trainwreck they researched that had a PPIMV – The original Trainwrecks had no master volume as Ken Fischer wasn't a fan.
Glad to see new tube amps and I am sure it is great, but $4300 is steep for a 50 watt amp that probably isn’t hand wired.
Seems like a really nice amp. The combo of the JJ preamp tubes and V30 speakers emphasizes the hard edginess more than for my tastes. I'd try the ShuGuang 7025 tubes and a EI 12at7, and some sweeter speakers.
God I love the fact new tube amp designs are still being built to this day. Long may it continue.
that first chord with the LP ????
The MT amps are more my speed but these sound pretty nice. ????
Sounds unreal even on a YouTube video.. damn you Paul????????????????
I love this amp it sounds awesome ❤????????????Hi Don im mahdi you are my friend really ❤❤????????????
So a PRS Dumble?
