♥ This is my first time to hear Black Sabbath and I was so happy to experience this music since the recent loss of Ozzy Osbourne. RIP This is just the beginning of this journey with Ozzy and Black Sabbath!

  • I'm just gonna say, the greatest band ever. Found them at 10, now 59 and still my alltime favourite band. They were panned for the first few years, but everyone realises how good they were these days.

  • The way the guitar is de-tuned, the strings loosened more than usual is because Tony lost his fingertips and had to improvise. That tuning became the classic Black Sabbath sound.

  • 16:32 Haha, I was wondering what the look on your face might be when the pitched up ending sets in and I was not disappointed. I had to laugh so hard ????????
But seriously: When Black Sabbath's debut album came out in 1970, they basically invented three genres – Heavy Metal, Doom and Stoner Rock. Which other band can say that about themselves? F***ing legends. Without Sabbath there'd be no metal as we know it. The Dio- and Tony Martin eras are worth checking out too btw. They are a bit more melodic, I'm sure you would like those as well.

  • If you would like to get your hair blown back, check out 1970 live in Paris, Sabbath War Pigs.
    Phenomenal !!! ❤❤????????

  • You mentioned Bach (Baroque era) when you were talking about the music reflecting and highlighting the lyrics, so would you say that Black Sabbath uses a "modern day form" of
    "picture painting"?

  • Black Sabbath's early stuff is really interesting; it's not really metal, because there was no such thing as metal yet, but just a blend of blues, jazz, pop, and whatever else. You'd think for a band with such a scary name, known for inventing the genre, they'd have a really dark stage presence, but actually most of their concerts tended to be Ozzy jumping around with a big smile and thanking the audience at every moment he could. Right up to his last show, he never once failed to appreciate his fans.
And for a bit of continuity between videos- just before Sabbath took off, their guitarist, Tony Iommi, was recruited to play (briefly) for…. Jethro Tull! If you watch A Song For Jeffrey at the Rock and Roll Circus, that's him on guitar, hiding his face from the camera cause he was embarrassed about the hat they gave him.

  • What’s interesting about Black Sabbath is that if you have Ozzy take a break from singing, this band is really a capable jazz band with the swing between the drums and the bass. As far as the guitarist, Tony Iommi is concerned, he’s stated many times that he was heavily influenced by Gypsy Jazz Master, Django Reinhardt….That’s where some of his most interesting chordal voicings came from. Who knew?

  • I still remember pulling this record out of my dad’s collection and listening to it at maybe 9 years old and was hooked due to this song. 48 years old now and still can’t get enough Black Sabbath. The Godfathers of metal.

  • Christina, I understand why you and other quality reactors prefer live or music only performances, but this one is an exception. For your own enjoyment (or heartbreak,) please go back and watch the associated video. It is exceptional.

  • Gotta go to the Ozzman Cometh album to hear the original lyrics Black Sabbath wrote for the song. Album has basement recordings for War Pigs and Black Sabbath. The insert for either the Ozzman Cometh or Black Sabbath Reunion explains aby the lyric change

  • As a 13 year old I heard this and Black Sabbath and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and it changed my whole musical direction and my outlook. Butler, I ommi ,Ward and Ozzy are the Fathers of all that is Metal. They are unmatched!!!

  • You would be amazed by, despite the reputation of Metal music, how many Metal songs are actually against war and often times convey positive messages overall.
There are of course exceptions and whole subgenres of Metal that definitely earned the reputation, but the more "mainstream" genres like Heavy Metal and Hairmetal are generally very positive, life affirming and critical of negative things.

  • It's fair to call it an anti-war protest song. Remember that 1970 was the height of the Vietnam War.
