If You Play Super Heavy Gauge Strings, You’ll Probably Want To Do This.
I’m a big fan of drop tuning and heavy riffs, and everyone knows that some heavy gauge guitar strings can help out with that!
But not all guitars have tuning pegs that are able to handle the larger guitar strings.
Sure, you could partially unwind the string every time you swap to a new set.
Or you could shop around for tuning machines that will fit your desired string gauge.
Or you could *gasps* go lighter and not play so low and heavy!
Or you can do this quick, simple 5 minute modification and never have to worry about that particular problem again.
Check it out!

Jesus Christ! Even the .74 is insanely huge. I use .9 – .42. Lol
Might as well just try a 6-string bass at that point dude. Guitars are not supposed to handle that caliber, I use .56 or .60 strings for Drop B or A and that's already a lot to ask for my guitar.
There is a string manufacturer here in the UK that will make your custom strings so they taper down between the nut and the tuners – you just give them the dimensions and they do the rest. They don't cost much more than mass-produced strings either.
.90???? at this point get a bass, makes it easyer ;D
What about the nut? Did you have to file the slot to make it wider?
whats the lowest gauge you use?
Just buy a bass
I dunno man, i think it's better to just get an extended scale/baritone, so i can use lower gauge strings and still tune down. Saves you ruining the tuning pegs.
Take a little file to burss if you do this do your strings to break on sharp edges. Pro tip
FOR WHY?!
Or you could just use Dunlop heavy core strings so you don’t have to use such big gauges. String joy is overhyped and overpriced
I tend to just unwind the string a bit and clamp the core in there – I'm too much of a ???? to drill my locking tuners out
Fuck???? I wouldn't drill into that
I just saw the first half of the title and I thought that it will be a short explaining that if you play super heavy gauge string, it kills your tone and you should just learn to play with a lighter gauge. No it was the opposite.
Whaaaaaat Aaarrre You doin?
"Hmm this wood pole doesn't fit in my car. Well better break the fucking windshield!"
Get a guitar with a longer scale length you wouldnt need a string that thick
Edit- my 7 string has a 26.5 inch scale length and i get custom stringjoy strings most of the time so im rocking 10-68 68 for more tension on my low string
.90 bro playing in drop Q
Tune it to standard i dare you
Had to do the exact same on the same guitar too ????????
Omg man. Why did you do that? You could have just unwound some of the string winding
