  • I have a plastic guitar & sounds amazing it also knocks the whole tone wood theory out of the water. Bracing & voicing of the braces is the real difference

  • Man its tough cause im starting to realize more and more doing these comparisons are just to hard on youtube cause they compress the sound and even if you have great speakers or headphones its still to easy to miss so much of the tone difference unless your their in person.

  • Tbh i think steel just sounds better. I get that it sounds a bit too bright and loud sometimes, but honestly i think it can be overcome quite a bit with technique, he’s playing all he notes the same volume, with steel you just have to play some notes quieter to avoid being annoying.

  • The differences between mahogany and spruce are subtle. You can make one sound more like the other simply by changing strings, picking technique, and EQ (if using a pickup or microphone). On the other hand, the two woods look distinctly different from each other, so there's nothing wrong with choosing based on which look you prefer.

  • I'LL SETTLE THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL: ????????

IF YOU LOVE PLAYING LIVE, JAMMING WITH FIRENDS OR EVEN ALONE AND GET THAT CLASSIC ACOUSTIC SOUND (SPARKLY, BRIGHTER, BIT PUNCHIER):
    Then go for SPRUCE.

IF YOU WANT NO NOTE SEPARATION AND MORE OF A FLAT SOUND WITH NOTHING STANDING OUT (BASS,MIDS,LOWS) WHICH WOULD BE PERFECT FOR RECORDING SONGS IN A STUDIO ENVIRONMENT (BECAUSE IT WILL BE EASIER TO FIT AND EDIT THE GUITAR SOUND TO FIT IN THE MIX WHILE MIXING AND MASTERING), BUT CAN ALSO STILL DO ALL OF THE ABOVE THAT THE SPRUCE CAN DO:
    Then go for Mahogany.

Then again, you can do everything I said vice-versa but for general rule of thumb: that's what these two tonewoods do best if you ask me, or anyone else that knows I lil bit about guitars in that manner (I'm not claiming to be an expert but just binge watch "acoustic guitar tonewood difference" videos on YouTube and you'll understand what I mean.

But remember, play the music you love with the budget you have, you don't need to follow the rules.

The best way to find out which one you love is by actually going to a music store and trying'em out!

For example in Hawaii I was looking for a Koa wood made acoustic guitar (budget 1500$) found one by Taylor MIM, but found another one made by Breedlove at 1/3 of the price (made in China) but still! That guitar just blew my mind with the quality of the craftsmanship, the beauty, the sound was normal but the projection of the sound what just insane!
Afterwards I read that they have this special machine that makes the thinnest tops and figures out the perfect thinnest to make the top of the guitar vibrate and oh boy they weren't bluffing!
The sound filled up the whole round without even me playing ringing open chord but quick reggae chops and the sound filled the whole space of the guitar shop I was in! Amazing, I'm so sad ????I wish I had bought that Breedlove Koa acoustic, but the Taylor Servicing and Lifetime Warranty just got the best of me.
That said, never judge a guitar by the place of manufacturing lol.
But remember even if its not made is USA or Mexico or what not, once in a lifetime you will stumble on that "pearl" of a guitar, that doesn't look the part, or even sometimes there's something broken on it, but when you'll play it, you'll feel IT on you ribcage and resonate through your body, and your ear will sense that : THIS IS DA ONE ! THIS IS DA SOUND I'VE BEEN HEARING IN MY HEAD BUT NEVER GOT TO HEAR IT WITH MY EARS !

AND YOU BETTER NOT LET THAT GUITAR GO AND GRAB YOUR WALLET AND BUY IT RIGHT AWAY, TRUST ME!
IVE HEARD TOO MANY STORIES LIKE MINE JUST LIKE THIS ONE. IF YOU HAPPEN TO FIND YOUR "PEARL" = GET IT RIGHT NOW !

Keep jamming and may YHWH bless you all ????????

  • There's certainly a difference to my ears. But no more that the difference between old strings and fresh ones. Also is the bracing identical?

  • It doesn't really matter, choose what you prefer, all it matters is just skill. So keep practicing

  • there's a lot of variation within one wood so it's not that important and ultimately the thing that matters most is the construction of the guitar. the construction may follow from the wood such that it's not the wood itself that is making a difference. it's hugely important for price and marketing though.

  • I feel like mahogany is slightly, but still very noticeably more muted than spruce. It’s a more mellow and lofi sound compared to spruce which sounds a bit brighter and poppy.
