This Plugin Finally Nails John Mayer’s Tone (Archetype: John Mayer X Review)

Archetype: John Mayer X is here. In this video, I review the brand-new Neural DSP Archetype: John Mayer X plugin, break down every amp, cabinet, mic, pedal, and studio effect, and put its tones to the test in a real musical context.

I also compare Archetype: John Mayer X to Paradise Guitar Studio from Universal Audio to help you decide which guitar plugin is the better buy for your studio.

  • This channel has a lot of potential! Great review.

Constructive comments: your microphone setup has a bit too much room sound, and you could use less scripting so your speech is a bit more natural and conversational. Seriously, you are going places!

  • I've been using the pedals of NDSP JM into Paradise front end as one chain. They work really well together, The Q-tron is nice but it's not the same in response as my Q-tron Plus pedal it seems tamer by comparison but still more than useable. The spring reverb on Paradise is unmatched for drippy sounds IMO and reacts very dynamically, i was a bit disappointed with the spring on JM by comparison but it still sounds decent in its own right but the dynamic thing just isn't happening at all. Only digital spring I've used that beats the UA one is Tone Master Pro 63 spring convolution which sounds exactly the same as my Surfy bear classic
