John Cougar Danger List on HQ Vinyl with Lyrics in Description
Track 4 from his fifth album “American Fool” released in 1982 copyright Riva Records. It was recorded at Cherokee Studios in Hollywood and Criteria Studios in Miami and was produced by John Mellencamp & Don Gehman who was also one of the three engineers who worked on the project. It was his breakthrough release and reached No. 1 on the Billboard album chart where it stayed for nine weeks. Riva Records monitored the recording sessions and didn’t see much potential in the songs chosen for the album so they put a hold on the sessions and considered hiring a new producer or even firing John from the label. Eventually they were convinced to let the project go ahead but hoped for a different musical direction on future albums. Three singles were released. “Hurts So Good” reached No. 2 on the chart and has become one of his most popular songs. “Jack & Diane” spent four weeks at No. 1 and was selected by the Recording Industry Association of America as one of the “Songs of the Century.” Mick Ronson, who worked as a guest musician and arranger on the album, was instrumental in coming up with the final arrangement for the song. The album received above average reviews and reached No. 37 in the U.K., No. 30 in Sweden, No. 18 in Australia and No. 1 in the U.S. and Canada. It was certified 5X Platinum in the U.S. and Canada. Office girls, they pass me by, they don’t know my name
Put me on the danger list, just too wild to tame
Take the drinks off of the table, throw my guitar out the door
Set my sights on some new sunrise, help my feet to the floor
(I ain’t lookin’ for affection, I guess I need myself a shove)
(Gimme someone I can look up to, show me someone I can love)
Good boys go to Heaven, good girls say their prayers
Me, I don’t say anything at all, I hope the Big Man still cares
Touch my soul with your religion, cut my throat with your spite
Hurt me with your silence, girl (stay with me, stay with me, stay with me tonight)
(I ain’t lookin’ for affection, I guess I need myself a shove)
(Gimme someone I can look up to, show me someone I can love)
(I ain’t lookin’ for affection, I guess I need myself a shove)
(Gimme someone I can look up to, show me someone I can love)
Don’t go starin’ at me, makes me feel so insecure
Talk behind my back if you want to, I don’t hear no more
Take me to my destination, put me on the plane
Fly me up to Heaven, dear Lord, take me home again
(I ain’t lookin’ for affection, I guess I need myself a shove)
(Gimme someone I can look up to, show me someone I can love)
(I ain’t lookin’ for affection, I guess I need myself a shove)
(Gimme someone I can look up to, show me someone I can love)
