Got my hands on the TOD10N! Which is the new signature guitar from Ibanez and Tim Henson. Here’s an honest review and my thoughts on it.

Can you do a follow up re: how you got it fixed, if you were able to get it fixed?
All I care about when I play the TOD unplugged is what I hear. The direct sound hole directly facing up is perfect for practicing.
This guitar sounds like shit
I got the lower cost version in the natural tone. It also has intonation issues on the G and B strings. I installed some savages high tension strings and it’s mostly resolved for now. Still not 100% but I can play up to the 7th fret before thing get squirrelly.
It sounds worse than a budget kids classical guitar
Recording Tip:
DON'T Place the mic in front of the guitar. Set it up that it's directed toward the sound hole in a 45° Angle from above.
The sound is more full and detailed that way
it sounds like a banjo
I REALLY loved how you played the riff in a REAL one take way. this is actually how this guitar sounds and this it how it will probably sound unless edited.
I really hate how must of this guitars sound like little farts. Go for the Godin Multiac or Cordoba Fusion Stage.
0:10 "dik, duk, dak, dik, duk, dik" excellent harmonics
what software are you using to plug in for ur guitar?
You should learn how to set up guitars, its really not hard at all and any tool you need you prob already have
Kinda disapointed tou have that headless and not a strandberg (as they are designed to be headless and not just a guitar wouthout a head and diff tuners)
Great review mate. Honest and informative.
Hi did you make any action and or neck adjustments after getting it? Or did you feel it was good coming out of the box?
Sadly the last point is very common. Spent 1400 on a syn gates custom S, locked in floyd rose in E standard, asked guitarguitar uk for it to be setup in drop d and they said that isnt a tuning…..
Wow that sounds bad. No wonder this model didn't sell before. But there's is always enough impressionable teenagers that will buy the crap that their idol plays. Piezos sound horrible. They are just a crutch for live situations when you can't mic up an acoustic. A miced up good classical guitar sounds so much better. Actually it's amazing how bad it sounds. They couldn't have made it worse if they tried. Sounds like a toy.
Intonation is my only complaint on this guitar. My issue is the high e string above the 12th fret and going higher is way off. Can this actually be fixed and if so how? Other than that the guitar is awesome especially for practice.
OMG Thank you Waste of my time to even try it , Back to Cordoba shopping Thank you ! !
would you play it on an acoustic guitar amp or electric guitar amp?
2:16 The sound of TOD10N guitar is simply something ive never heard of before.. Its soo unique and good..i cant even explain how it sounds
I have this guitar and it sounds way better when I play it… Idk what you did to make it sound like that. As far as the intonation goes, nylon strings require a higher skill level to accurately press down the string and judging by your mediocre attempt at 'Playing God' you should not be taken seriously. It sounds like you have the preamp volume too high or just terrible technique. Hard to know. But yeah, this is an amazing guitar and maybe you got a bad one or the setup was incorrect. Also, idk why you are comparing it to a classical guitar. It is meant to play plugged in with effects, compression, etc. for $700, this guitar is badass. You can get basically the same guitar by Ibanez for $500 without the Tree of Death inlay and it comes in different colors. So essentially it is a $500 guitar with a fancy inlay and binding job. Also the fishman mic. But yeah, idk what your point was by judging the guitar at your playing level. You can barely press the strings down and your finger style is stiff and amateur. Not hating, just saying…
I bet it also sounds great if you do an ortf small diaphragm pair and combine those with the DI
to be fair…I see this more as a "personal" guitar. the sound hole is pointed towards your face, not the audience. that's why I think recording with the mic the way you did is not that great sounding.
its like recording a guitar through an amp but placing the mic ontop of the amp instead of in front of the actual speaker.
appreciate a truly honest review though! I will likely still get it. I play electric guitar primarily for 17 years or so..I've also carried the cheapest acoustic with me through my life that I hate playing on because its terribly uncomfortable. confirmed to be a horrible guitar by everyone that touched it. I just want something for myself, nice looking and not TOO terrible.
The Alhambra blows it away in terms of tone and overall sound quality. It sounds beautiful vs. thin and tinny. You could see the difference in your expression when you played the Alhambra. I think the Tim Henson model is a bit of a waste of money if you a comfortable on a real classical (which you are).
I want to know the name of the solo u were playing in the beginning
this was such an informative review; what was the name of the first song you played on the Lucero??
The guitar looks really ugly man.
i have the neural dsp, what exacly is this effect ? what the specific name please
Trash I have one
I just bought that guitar. It’s different compared to my other classical guitars and that’s a good thing.
I tend to use the TOD10N in a wide range of music genres.
I’m very happy with it and if you are after a classical nylon string guitar from Ibanez, I’ll give this guitar a 9/10.
HEY MAN cool review.
I have been thiniking about getitng this guitar, I would agree that it sucks it didn't come setup decenlty, but thq QC of his signatures have been pretty off.
I have some shitty 200 $ esteban nylon that I have been playing on for a couple of years now, praciting the piano mostly these days,
if you were to get a nylon in that range 500-600 what would it be? that you can direct in.
I also find the DSP takes it to another level , but the shure 58 woulld not be the mic to use in a recording anything like that anyways IMO.
I guess it has its place….for me, that place would be somewhere far away from me lol Seriously though
if "awful" is the sound your going for…..then by all means, spend $700 to try to copy tim henson.
Im not bashing henson's abilities, {leave me alone fanbois} the kid has some of the most technical chops out there, skills out of this world. But they don't do him {or anyone else} much good.
In the end, the final product is awful overproduced background noise. "tappy tappy, ping ping, sweepick, harmonic, tappy tappy" …….ok cool…….now write a song.
These guitars will soon fill the walls of local pawn shops and guitar center for less than $600.
if you really want one, just wait a year or two and get one CHEAP.
The intonation can be fixed by simply adjusting the truss rod and shaving the bridge down a bit.
I did that to my Acoustasonic that was unplayable out of the box.
I’ve been sitting on picking up one of these, because something has always been off on all the reviews I’ve seen. I finally figured it out after watching my your review…I’ve been waiting to see a review from a classically trained nylon player and not just a shredder. Still on the fence but you got me leaning!
4:55 how is this not a defect? It seems very wrong to receive a guitar that sounds like that for $700.
This guitar sounds like ass even plugged in.
900 likes and I hope this can go to 1000 ❤❤❤
Dude, put a shirt on Jesus
Quick note… It's pronounced "ah-LAM-brah", not "al-HAM-brah". The H is silent in Spanish.
I like the “honest” word
Also is this a good starter guitar ?
Wheee can I learn how to play the guitar
I didn‘t get any of the TODs, or the THBB because of the cable output placement. The two electric guitars are unplayable in classical position, they are only designed for the right leg. The nylon is more ergonomic, but i can see the cable pointing in your right leg, which is a deal breaker to me, because it brings the guitar out of balance (and at some point you will feel the stitching pain, maybe after many hours cause its a light guitar i guess, but still)
Direct in sounds plastic
