  • So I cant here any boom from the guitar, no dominant resonances, no room, just nothing horrible and guitars are just not like that.
It wouldnt matter really where you place that mic Warren your audio gear just sounds great regardless of mic position. What is the secret sauce?

  • Thank you for the video! How/where would you position the pencil mic to make sure it is the most forgiving during the guitar movement, but also doesn't pick up a lot of the voice of the singer?

  • Warren, do you not find that the transients from the guitar are too pronounced on the top end of the guitar in that position? Like the 3-5k area?

  • I've never thought of this before. My acoustic guitar recordings always sound weak, so I might try this

  • I always aim the mic closely to the 12th fret and achieve great results, but I will try this next time.

  • It’s all Personal preference some guitars like sound the best at the neck. Right in the hole. It all depends on the style and genre ❤????????

  • I play a bit of acoustic guitar with percussion (typically a wrist bump for the bass and a string slap for the snare, and occasional tom on other parts of the body) and it's quite difficult to use a single microphone to get both non-percussive and percussive sections in a single take. Any thoughts? I have a taylor with a ES2. Just wondering what your approach would be. I have a Rode NT1 condenser mic and SM 57.

  • Interesting that most acoustics I've seen in Studios were Yamahas while most acoustics seen on stage are Martins.

  • Any tips on how far away the mic should be from the body? And would an SM58 work for this? I can't find any info on the diaphram size.

  • I just got a pair of Shure SDC…KSM 137. Do you prefer two mono tracks recorded with each or a stereo track?

I'm new to recording and especially acoustic guitars.

  • Hmm I can dig it. Have you ever noticed though different acoustics seem to project their own a little? I have a Sigma that it comes out so big and full out the bridge top really heavy and Takamine that it sounds thin there. Obviously only so many places but I notice just about every acoustic has its own little double out where it thins and full projects.

  • That’s interesting. I have a good mics & guitars but have never been happy with the 12th fret technique. Maybe it’s my playing?

  • Marvelous idea! Will try today!! I read page likes to give a bit of space, but doing it like you said, eliminated low end

  • oh, my…… I know that I'm a nobody and I know who Warren is… but just an advice to fellow audio engineers: NEVER tap the guitar of the musician…
