Good explanation – I just picked up this guitar as a new learner after reading a bunch of reviews. Most agree it is a good buy for the $$$… Thanks for sharing with this video !!
Never need to burn hundreds (or worse.. thousands) of dollars to play guitar.. you'll get a dam good guitar between 200-400 bucks, Yamaha FG, Fender CD, Seagull S6 to name just a few. I had the FG830 and now the Seagull S6 Entourage cutaway which is a awesome Canadian (and wood) made guitar.
Newbie picked one up today. Can’t wait to learn.
Im very on the fence between Yamaha fg800 and Gretch Jim Dandy Dreadnought – Rex Burst
Any thoughts?
I love that it is a "beginner" guitar but I'm telling you you play one. They are actually incredible!! I'm a flat picker and I love the feel and tone and the projection is outstanding.
Honestly. Yamaha makes the best Guitars. I dont even think its close. Their cheap Guitars still sound and feel as good as you can possibly want or need. Its just my opinion. Theres plenty of other Guitars that I like. But if Im wanting comfort and good sound. Im grabbing the Yamaha.
Just played one at guitar center. Sounds better than my Yamaha AC5R…????
Chris does a great job on these videos. I really appreciate his insight. Thank you.
the sound is too bright and tinny for me. if i change the string to phosphore bronze 12-53 do you think the tinny bright sound can be eliminated?
I bought the exact same model in Aug 2025 and I'm totally impressed by it. I leave it at my office for breaks. I have a Taylor 324ce for home. Two different beasts but, still the Yamaha impressed me very much.
Thanks for making these great videos.
Cheers!
Great video ! I went into a guitar shop in the UK for an FG830 and came out with a Yamaha LL16. What a beautiful instrument. I still want an FG830 for the camper van, though I may get the FS830 as it’s slightly smaller. I know a few guitarists that have Yamahas and they all say what fine instruments they are. I would definitely recommend !
Bought my 1st guitar 8 months ago in February on my Dads bday. He passed the year before. I fell in love with the sound of theYamaha A1R after probably 20 1hr trips to guitar center. I finally bought it after not being able to decide forever.. Now im looking to get more of a cannon. GC here never has the 800s. I really like the epiphine hummingbirds though. Waiting to try one of the 800s
I just bought a mint condition 2020 FG800 Sandburst and Roadrunner HSC for $200. Strung it up with new D'Addario coated. I enjoy that Yamaha sound. Good review!
Thoughts on this fg800 vs an ibanez aw 54?
I felt it right away. It no one at the guitar place couldnt tell us what the difference is
But i could feel it great feeling guitar
Had the LL16 but the sound is way to annoyingly bright for me, i might as well look into this one. It doesn't matter if it all solid or laminated.
sounds really good to me
What's the difference between standard fg800 vs fg800j?
Pulled out my FS-820 sitting since 2019 and sounded amazing! Found it on Alamo EBay deal 2017. Beautiful Sunburst and sexy too!
I've played this next to a martin d-18 and found very little difference in sound. The only thing I would change is the nut width. Should be wider. These are great guitars. Planning on using it at the songwriters events and keeping the sold wood guitars for band gigs.
Im wondering if the "J" model body is smaller than the FG-800?
