  • I have a Fender CD-60SCE, all mahogany. Definitely has a warmer tone, but the but to get another guitar has been biting me a lot lately ????

  • Nothing special on the mahogany woods that I hear. However, the Koa sounds great across all frequencies and is absolutely beautiful.

  • I have an ‘09 Martin D15 I bought secondhand. It was made before the 15-M series was guaranteed to be mahogany, so I think my guitar may actually be sapele. It is a wonderful, warm, fat-sounding guitar and would be my #1 to save from a fire.

  • I have a Martin D18. As much as I love the look of Indian Rosewood, I like the sound of mahogany just a tad more. Both woods are great, but I do believe mahogany gets overlooked by its more expensive counterpart of Indian Rosewood.

  • I was convinced I wanted a rosewood guitar. And it looks beautiful. After playing many guitars of every brand and wood I landed on my Eastman e10D and absolutely love it.

  • Nice John! I have an Ibenez AC340 OPN guitar built with okume and I love it! So nice for an entry level guitar! Sounds great and I did a setup on it so it plays great as well.

  • Guitars overall sound nice. I think the mahogany has a deep rich sound. I noticed the guitars have a really nice sustain….. not sure if that's the microphone or the sound system

  • Love the darker tone of the Koa, but I'm not so keen when the top is also Koa; way too compressed for me unless I'm recording

  • I have a mahogany 1965 Gibson LG-1 that's mahogany–it has a really nice, woody tone and not too shrill or bright. Also if you are in the market for a Taylor GS Mini, the mahogany ones are considered to be the best sounding (I have one). They make a koa one that sounds fantastic as well but it's a couple hundred bucks more.

All Mahogany. Get a Lot of compliments on its sound. Love it

  • As beautiful as they are, I'm yet to hear a guitar with koa back and sides that doesn't sound horrible. They really stand out in the worst way possible.

  • #2 was the brightest sounding, #4 was the best all around sound to my ears & I've been playing for 52 years.

  • Thank you. Still learning everyday. Took up guitar very late in life, and am enjoying the trip.

  • Mahogany is right for me, but I do enjoy a fine sounding rosewood now and then… especially for certain songs and situations.
