Tim Lerch – Yamaha NTX1 Demo – A FANTASTIC low priced Nylon String

This is a nice guitar for the money. Actually its quite good regardless of the price. The strings are Pro Arte Polished (Recording) Strings. They are old and smooth like flat wounds to reduce the squeak. No amp, just a mic over the end of the fingerboard. The tune is Nature Boy.

  • Can I ask what's the style of music you demonstrated in this video? Sounded really beautiful and melancholic. Thanks!

  • Went looking for reviews of this guitar… stayed for the playing! I know you are an amazing guitarist, but the guitar sounds surprisingly good considering the cost. I’ve watched this so many times and even read through comments about string choice and what not. Tim., you mentioned that you’re playing extra hard tension polished, but when I go online, the polished part seems like it’s just the basses. What are you using for your trebles? Extra hard nylon?

  • Its weak at tge bridge. Mine critical failed. The bridge seperated from the sound board damaging the soundboard, the element, the bridge. After repair it has a scar and it wont setup the same. It wont stay in tune with itself. I dont play mine anymore its parked in my closet but belongs in the dumpster. Ive chased it down the repair road twice and it will never be a stage guitar again. I wish yamaha woumd back their vintage gear but they do not.

  • So is this a solid top or laminate? Also is the NTX 500 a better version, or is the NTX 1 the best? I'm Soo confused shopping for these now.

  • Checked this out to hear samples of the NTX1 and/or NCX1; I favor the wider classical neck, so I’ll be going with the NCX1, but these guitars do sound dang nice… thanks for a nice demo; very beautiful playing!

  • I'm very glad you demonstrated it without it being plugged in. I am seriously thinking about getting one myself. I've been playing a classical guitar (not classical music) and I find the 52mm neck width to be playable but it's difficult to get clean, quick chord changes. I hope a narrower neck would help me out and definitely want to stay with nylon strings.

  • Tim. Just saw this vid. Do you still noodle around with the nylon string thing ? I am considering transitioning to nylon string.
I have always played electric and acoustic. Contemplating the nylon string route. So the question is; do you believe that you would
ever just go to strictly nylon guitar or is this just another tool in your arsenal ?

  • Hi Tim, I bought an NTX1 a while back based on this video. I have not been disappointed and really enjoying it! Been playing since 1978 and this is the first nylon sting I've owned. Very happy with it, and thank you for the video. Thanks for the videos, books, and all your contributions to help other players.

  • Pretty! Have been thinking about getting one and this sold me. I'm not nearly that advanced tho lol. As I was typing this the ending played and I love the bluesy end. What piece was that?

  • Enjoy your playing very much Tim, phrasing, tone and chord inversions are beautiful. I studied with Johnny Smith in Colo. Springs, CO in the early 1970's.

  • I played a bit of classical as a boy, but keeping up my nails interfered with my bass playing, which continues to be my first love. This video got me interested in trying a hybrid. From other videos I’ve watched, it seems like it’s possible to get some interesting sounds from playing pick and fingers…
