  • I've just gotten my first ever Eastman, purchased sight unseen.
It's an E10SS-LTD, prototype of E16SS, with sitka top, birdseye back-sides-neck, rosewood fretboard-bridge.

This is the best guitar I've ever owned, unbelievable instrument, I'm SO glad I pulled the trigger!
It's vibrant, lush, chimy, bassy, with such sustain, oh my!
The best part is probably how SENSITIVE and dynamic it is, I've never played a guitar like that.
I lightly lightly strum it, and it sounds full. I bash it, and it ROARS.
I feel like it can do EVERYTHING I want it to, now it's just up to me to up my skills. I don't feel held back.

And freaking EVERYTHING is perfect with the build.
Super thin finish (I guess poly), great neck carve, great fretwork, absolutely PERFECT neck angle and setup, great nut and saddle, ramped bridge.
And its bracing is SO light!!!

After that, factory Asian guitars from all Cort brands and Epiphone will never cut it for me.
I played an HD-35 couple of months ago, and didn't like it, it was sensitive, rich but sooo scooped, it lacked meat.
    I liked Furch D-SW A LOT.
I liked J-35 most, and while it's not as bassy and lightweight, it has so much more treble and sustain instead. J-35 felt like "yeah, this is exactly what a guitar should sound like".
    J-185 was just good.

So now I understand you so much better, Cory!

  • My Martin SC – 18e – is the easiest guitar to play the Mahogany woods Project like no other – BUT the NEW SC has NO HEAL – so I can finger play up the 15-18 frets and you cant touch them with the old dreadnaught style. the neck is very thin, like an electric guitar – I own 5 guitars and have owned and played 82 others…….Martin SC – 18e NOTHING BEATS IT!

  • I really like my used E8D Tc that I bought from Ebay a couple weeks ago. I was able to have my mom drive me to my local music store since I’m blind, and I had my guitar set up for me. My saddle needed to be lowered and my nut needed to be a bit higher. I had a strap button installed and my neck needed adjusting so I wouldn’t get string buzz when I played. I don’t use picks when I play just my fingers. My guitar sounds so good. In fact I also got to play the $3800 Billy Strings martin d28 and my Eastman sounded very similar to the d28. I think the martin sounds just a lteittle bit better, but not by much. I know my Eastman be a guitar that I will enjoy for years to come.

  • I just bought a used E8D from Ebay for about $1100 including shipping and tax. I’m going to have my music store install a strap button and put on a set of x s strings because I don’t care for the sound of the Martin strings that are on the guitar at present. The guitar has uchsuc good sustain. I’m a blind guitar player. I hope once I have the new strings installed my guitar wil sound more to my liking. I want a sound with more bass then I’m currently getting from the guitar.

  • Hey thanks for the info. My local dealer has a brand new D1 deluxe for which am trading for, a totally unused Takamine Gn and 45 watt Benz Genz amp 2013 plus 200 to boot. I’d rather have a higher model but more expensive. I was looking at a Martin D12e . A lot of utubers are saying Eastman better buy for the buck . Not sure to do the deal and just keep saving. Then work buddy said check out LR BaggsAE1 for only 1500 whoa. I’m 71 and looking to perform at senior living circuit before I end up there myself. Sorry to maybe bore you but yes hang on to that sucker unless you would like a mint condition Takamine…

  • It’s one fine instrument. I sort of regret returning mine. The tone just wasn’t what I was after and the neck was chunkier than I wanted, but after some time, I do miss it. The thing that makes these special is that they are hand built, and you definitely notice when you see and hold them. Very nice guitar. Glad you are happy with it, because these are such an affordable alternative to the others you mentioned and are honestly better than anything the others have to offer at its price point, in my opinion.

  • I have an E8D (not TC) as well as 2 Taylors and a Yairi Masterworks. To me, the Eastman is the best sounding and it cost significantly less. The others have better playability. I like them all.
