Gypsy Jazz on a Budget: Red Hill GJO-10 Review

I bought one of the cheapest Gypsy jazz guitars. Red Hill GJO-10
The customer reviews on the website of store felt pretty unrealistic so I decided to add my point of view. This is not a paid partnership. I just did this for fun. Maybe someone will find it helpful.

Here is a link to the store where I bought this: https://www.musicstore.com/en_OT/EUR/Red-Hill-GJO-10/art-GIT0059245-000

  • Ciao, grazie per la recensione molto utile. Mi sai dire se il top della chitarra è piatto o leggermente bombato? A me poi interesserebbe quella con la buca D

  • Thank you for posting. I actually plan on buying a cheap Aliexpress Jazz Manouche guitar. In the US we can still get Duncan Beneditto pickups for reasonably affordable. I'll likely grab the cheapest thing I can, know it'll need a major setup, put the pickup near the neck and get to chunkin'. Great video.

  • Oh, yeah. China is pretty bad. Bro pays 500 bucks on the guitar and compares it to THE MIGHTY, PERFECT, EUROPEAN that costs more than 10x more. Really fair. EUROPEAN BRANDS are truly superior. True fact.

  • You can improve this guitars sound …For bass end you have to glue inside the body loose the strings – small piece of rosewood or palisadros or ebony – 1-2 cm long will do the job .First you try it by placing it on the top with some paper tape and hear the difference …When you find the right place loose the strings and insert your hand in the sound hole and press it at the inner side of the top …(Put some glue on the piece first !)( keep pressing for a minute due to the glue you use …) Also try a piece of mahogany 4-5 cm long and 1 cm thick at the center of the back …Glue it inside also … Then you may tune your guitar at A 432 …These are prewar style guitars and by this time music globally was using A432 …The A 440 came first in Germany after 1940 … I also use a scrapper and remove all or some of the poly finish or lacker from the back of the neck …Then I get a woodier tone …Also some small wear at the peghead using the scrapper never sand papers alters the sound at your will …Good luck !

  • Looks and sounds like my Manuche Dell Arte gypsy, I too had to level the frets but that was because a change in weather from the region I bought it to where I live, turning the truss rod was not enough. I have a question do you HAVE to use guitar strings that are made for this type of guitar and can you use nylon strings also, nice playing.

  • 1. What are you going to do to improve the setup?
    2. What gauge strings do you use ideally?

  • Thanks for this review. I have a gypsy jazz replica made in the Philippines. Was always wondering how it compares to the pricey ones. Hope you get a chance to check it out as well
