  • Is this sort of like what Pat Martino thought? He would play a form of Dm over say the V chord in 2 5 1 in C. Only thing I’m not sure I grasp is what exact type of minor i.e. Phrygian, natural minor, melodic minor etc. Could you clarify?

  • Sorry but this needed for you to play the bass and give a perfect example of what you're trying to describe. You never jammed or used any of the things as an example to show us how helpful your lessons are.

  • this is way to complex, what boxes in the mind does this fall into organization of understanding? g minor major arpeggio. holly christ. maybe thats harsh but theres got to be a beginning.

  • Thanks for another valuable resource. What can I do to make a chord played on the keyboard last? Does this require a special plug-in in the DAW? Sorry, this may be a bad question but I'm a beginner in DAWs.

  • Man.. you’re a great teacher, I really appreciate how you hone in on one idea that helps expand and open up my fret board. I really appreciate how you cut thru the bs and give detailed descriptions from chordal standpoints.. this past year all I’ve been focusing on is chords and harmony as far as the fretboard goes

  • I have never heard it explained before, well looks like I can practice and have so many more choices instead of 1 3 5 7

  • I have been playing Bass for more than 30 yrs , I'm 60 yrs old and I always felt frustrated when Músicos started to talk about 9,13, #11 etc, I wanted to learn but I felt somehow "Blackmailed by the root and 5th".
I started watching the videos yesterday and it's amazing how everything connects and best of all, how it is explained.
I think that now my journey begins.
    Thanks so much!
    Greetings from Tijuana.

  • I guess I've been playing too long without learning what I was doing. I wish I could just really understand this. I'll watch a few more times, with a bass in hand.

  • Fantastic explanation on the extensions to the target note. I am in Cancún, Mexico. Truly interesting approach. Thank you kindly.

  • Great lesson. This will motivate me to practice in a different and unusual way today. A much needed change.

  • Thanks – this is inspiring! I have a question referring to the idea of numerator/denominator concept Gm/C. This idea can be transposed, right? For example to Fm/Bb, an d so forth, correct?

  • I found this lesson, very useful, and I will have to rewatch it a few times but I really appreciate the way that you break this down. I never would’ve considered starting on the fifth of a particular route note to open up the pallet of sounds. Good stuff! Mahalo.

  • Dig the lesson. I like the chord tones first approach as it your fingers hit the notes that matter as a default. It would be great to see something on spicing up the chord tones with some Bebop chromaticism. A lot of people say transcribe Bird but it's not super practical on bass unless you've got insane chops!

  • It’s amazing how easy it is to see when it’s all laid out. It opens it up almost instantly. This is the real stuff-thanks for sharing it Lorin.
