Sir James, Thank you much for the great lessons. Unfortunately, the tracks you used are considered "Boogie" in the Soul/R&B music genre. "Papa was a rollin stone" would be acceptable.
From the land of Funk, Ohio, and its capital of Funk, Dayton, you forgot Mark Adams from "Slave". He influenced many to pick up the bass guitar.

With respect I don't consider most of the tracks you played as funk. Forget Me Nots – okay. Poppa Was A Rolling Stone – probably. The rest – no. Interestingly you mention Graham, Bootsy, and Louis Johnson, but you don't include tracks from them. Not getting that one. If you would like, I can recommend true funk bass examples. To start, how about Funkentown by Slave.

The sheet for "Get Down On It" does not really show, what you are playing. In pitch yes, but no way in note lenghts.

What a treat James. Thank you. I just subscribed to Bass Lab PLUS on Friday. Having grown up in the 70's, I'm a fan of funk music. Each of these five songs brought back great memories. My favorite is September by Earth, Wind & Fire. My goal is to develop my slap bass skills so that I can play Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen.
