Rig Rundown – Don Felder
Article and photos: http://bit.ly/DonFelderRR
Shortly before a recent show at Nashville’s City Winery, Don Felder took a few minutes to talk to Premier Guitar’s John Bohlinger about everything from his first garage band with Stephen Stills to his years with the Eagles and beyond.
Felder is best known for slinging his iconic Gibson EDS-1275. The model shown here is his signature Gibson “Hotel California” model with separate outputs for both the 12-string and 6-string. The original inspiration for the dual outputs came when Felder attended a Chet Atkins concert when he was a kid and Atkins routed the lowest three strings to one amp and the top three strings to another allowing him to play (and amplify) “Dixie” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy” at the same time.
Felder has also been closely linked to holy grail-era Gibson Les Pauls. His original ’59 is safe at home but this Custom Shop ’59 reissue with custom-wound Seymour Duncan pickups joins him on the road.

Imagine the Stories Don could tell. It would be amazing to be able to sit down and have a yarn to these Legends
Duane did not playnslide until hen he broke his elbow in the hourglass in LA after hearing Jesse Ed on the first Taj Mahall album while living in LA. Does not make sense.
I just saw Felder live. I am assuming his rig is still pretty similar to this.
Ok im going to count how many times John says cool and report back.
Now hes no Feldman The come Back King. but Felder is no slouch. Guys jam on your couch dont jam your couch alrighty, yeah good
Master Felder.
✔???? ???? ???? ????????????
.
Class Act and great human being!
Awesome video bro….
Wow, no need to ask questions, what a guy!! Legend.
What great stories! Don, you're rockin' it man!
^..^~~
The amount of knowledge and willingness to dispense this knowledge is unreal. Arguably, one of the best interviews ever.
The Gibson double neck-guitar is obviously Not as heavy as I thought it was ????
If it weren't for His guitar , hotel California wouldn't have been the same ..
Wow, that intro jam!
Legend!!
well, soft spoken refined man. That's the way to talk.
Kudos on the minimalist pedal board!
Norik is my tech too
I don't give a shit how great Henley's lyrics are, or whatever Glenn Frey contributed musically to the Eagles or in general. Don Felder is an incredibly personable raconteur who knows the craft inside and out and actually brings any music he plays TO LIFE. A totally classy, ingenious guy and a wonderful all around person, no matter what that miserable sourpuss Don Henley wants to take credit for or whatever that angry narcissist Glenn Frey brought to the band.
What a line up of legends Don has had the privilege to be in contact with.
Saw don live twice in a day at epcot, amazing guitarist
Wow….serious background. Love it.
Excellent interview. Don Felder is a musicians musician and also an engineers musician. I love it when he starts talking tech. He has also held up remarkably well physically. Still looks like a rock star !???? ???? ????
The host probably wanted to excoriate the people in the background dragging stuff around, but Felder is cool as a cucumber!
Love Don Felder. Class Act.
Excellent interview!!!
“Fingers” Felder is EASILY rock’s most underrated guitarist.
"90s fake guitar sound" lol FACTS!
omg awesome
Don’s solo on “I can’t tell you why” is one of the greatest solo’s I’ve ever heard.
he has real energetic!
Very interesting guy, seems happy to talk about it all.
The white double-necker is the most iconic guitar ever. Not everyone is an expert, so difficult to tell them all apart. Except that one.
He seems like a good guy
I love don Felder. He is the guitarist and person we all long to be.
Love the rig rundown series.
Great that Don mentioned Lipham Music, but also sad they closed down. The younger generation has missed out on the great music stores that had your favorite artist sign records or guitars when in town and often put on shows in the store's parking lot with the local stores musicians playing back up. I saw Pat Travers play at a Peaches parking lot in the 80's in Dallas, sad those days are gone!
For some strange reason he reminds me of Liberace
What a talent and how humble !? None of Frey's or Henley's arrogant pretensions .
