In their iconic stompbox form, BOSS does it again. The PH-3 Phase Shifter, in stunning lime-green, serves up classic phase tones and a lot more. The 4-Stage mode is is very familiar sounding while 8, 10, and 12-Stage modes each get progressively thicker and chewier. Rise and Fall modes add their own new twist and Step Mode is a very welcome surprise. I love the randomness of the pattern.
Rate, Depth and Resonance offer plenty of sonic shaping; the addition of Tap Tempo and the EXP/CTL input put more flexibility and on-the-fly creative control. Great sounds, lots of options and rock-solid Boss quality.

10 stage sounded the most palatable? I noticed the 8 stage sounded brighter and more open. I’ve noticed this across many YouTube videos. Maybe I misunderstood why you chose the 10 stage option. Thank you for the demonstration.

I have a Helix, a Hyper Phase and a surprisingly good budget unit under the Kokko brand, but kinda wish I were starting again when I hear this terrific unit.

Does this pedal go best in the effects loop or in front of the amp if you're using the amp's gain? I'm more of a rock/metal guitarist. The pedal sounds amazing!

At this point in time, you can't get the Step in the MD-200 nor MD-500. I'm not even sure that you can choose Rise and/or Fall in the menu of the 500. Probably not and that's exactly where the good old PH-3 comes in.

I personally use this for the rise/fall functions and use the PH-2 Super Phaser for the real phasing sounds, as it tends to be smoother for the phasing and just sounds a bit better overall. I'm a phaser geek it seems, I own a Super Phaser and two of these PH-3s

Just ordered one. Obviously you can do a lot with the settings, but that step mode when he turns the rate back up a bit sold it for me. 5:13
