  • The TV Jones sound great on clean / crunchy sounds. but as you crank the gain the midrange of the filtertrons shine sounding more aggressive and closer to what I like to hear.

  • I have a pro jet and the build quality is unbelievably great. BUT the electronics are garbage, the input jack was loose as hell and my cable would literally fall out, bridge pickup didnt work. I took it to my guitar tech, replaced pots and switch and jack with USA made, PUPS were good. Oh and threw in a treble bleed circuit. Overall amazing guitar and kept it under $700 even with parts and labor. I might do the tv jones but i like it for clean tone songs with some reverb and delay. I have les Paul's and a PRS for the heavy stuff.

  • I preferred the chinese-made Pro Jet's clarity for cleans and overdriven sounds… is it bad? ????

  • Makes me glad I sprung for the Duo Jet. Both sound great, but I really think the warmth and depth of the Duo Jet wins the day. Great playing, great vibes, great video!

  • Interesting… thank you… I like the pickups in the Duo better (tend to not like the brightness too much), but I imagine a little tweaking of the tone knob on the Pro would do wonders…

  • The Chinese Jet sounds ice picky and shrill on the bridge pickup. They do sound pretty close. With that said, I'd take the Japanese Duo Jet any day.

  • I think I actually prefer the pro over the duo. Maybe because I’m 7-8 coors in, but to my ear, the pro jet just cuts through more

  • Yes, I also liked the sharper Pro Jet tone. It cuts through and is the sound of "rock" to me.

  • Not that im a computant guitarist? But the pro jet seems to be a much brighter throughout all the pickup positions! But the duo jet seems to have a more solefull tone, on the slower blusey type music! But hay what do i know, this is just my personal opinion, but if i was looking to bye one of those guitars, id opt for the pro jet Chinese guitar???

  • I thought they both had interesting tone qualities as well as they both shared qualities. I would have to vote for the Pro Jet (sounded a hair more twangy and had that clean country tone and plus im a sucker for red and gold, lol

  • I just ordered a G5210 from Sweetwater in Broadway Jade after playing it in a local guitar shop. Love it!

  • There is some difference, for sure, but if you had switched the sound and had the pro jet sounds while the video showed the duo jet, I doubt that many of the cork sniffers would have caught it. I know I wouldn't. Nothing that an EQ pedal couldn't "fix". That said, the Japanese models are higher quality instruments and, generally, feel better.

  • Thanks for the comparison. But, if the 'Pro Jet' is the 'Electromatic Jet' g5230, note that it has a mahogany body, not basswood. If it were basswood, it would be much lighter than the Duo Jet. And, besides the mahogany body, they both have a maple top.

  • I knocked my Pro Jet over a few days ago….. it went with a loud bang on the back of the head…. picked it up and it was totally in tune.. (non-Bigsby) after much scrutiny not even a hairline in the finish. Tough tilt back.

  • The one sound that you didn't compare was the classic, slightly overdriven rockabilly sound from the bridge pickup, which was more recently tapped into by Brian Setzer. I have played and owned the New Jet, which I upgraded with T.V. Jones filtertron pickups, and the Round Up, which had stock classic filtertrons. I would note that the best Gretsches ever, in my opinion, are the Japanese manufactured models, which are actually more consistent in quality than 1950s and 1960s USA models. I've also played the Power Jet, which just blows one away with it's sparkling tones. Along with Setzer, these are useful for playing Beatles, early Rolling Stones, Buffalo Springfield, C.S.N.&Y., Tom Petty, Chet Atkins, and early twang style country music. Jeff Beck uses one on occasion, as well.

  • Nice video. Difficult to compare without putting your hands on them. My biggest concern would be the quality of the hardware. A lot of Chinese guitars builds cheap out on metals and polymers. If Gretsch is controlling the quality of the components, and the quality of the factory, the basic construction should be just fine, while the playability and sound have more to do with good setup. I would be more curious to compare the 5435 and 5230, basswood vs mahogany.
