Hello, I’m Joe – I’m a guitar player, singer-songwriter, producer, recording engineer and teacher!
On this channel you’ll find my original songs, covers and solo fingerstyle guitar arrangements. I was born on May 25th 1991 in Kempsey, NSW, Australia. Since 2010 I have been based in the US and currently live in the Rocky Mountains of Montana with my wife, Genevieve (who teaches illustration on YouTube!).
I play Maton acoustic guitars, made in Australia (just like me) and am very proud to have my own signature instrument, the JR Signature!

Thank you Joe, I’ve been playing acoustic for twenty years and just got my first electric , it’s a strange feeling not knowing how to make the sounds I want to make, but these basics make sense.

All great tips and your playing is beyond AMAZING! I can’t decide if I’m inspired or completely depressed when I compare my own playing to you.
I bet you've worn out a lot of frets. Stainless or Evo frets are probably a great idea for you regardless if you like them just so you aren't getting dressings done all the time.

Thank you Joe, so much, for sharing things you figured out and learned. I love watching you play so much.. You are so at ease.. You are so right about amps. I have a Fender Twin Reverb, and 2 Blues Juniors. I tried for awhile using the plugins like Fender Tweed, and when I went back to my amp, there is no comparison of sound and feel of those real tubes!!
Since I was sent a Joe Robinson link, I was hooked! Obviously, Joe is an astonishing musician first of all, although of course a great guitarist. There is nothing flashy in his playing, even when he does terribly impressive technical things, because it's music basically lying behind, and not technique. And he is very cool, kind and he generously shares what he knows in order to help us be better players – as in this video. Thanks a lot, Joe, you're such a great guy. (just a complaint: too many ads across this video!)

Combine the digital preamp to a real tube poweramp, sounds better. Still prefer a full tubeamp. More punch. Nice tips! I need it.
Well that was funny…about 2:00 minutes into this video, an ad appeared "how to play acoustic guitar", but not an ad with Joe, just one of the other 1,000,000 guitar instructors on You Tube. Joe, you're top ten for sure!
Interesting video. On tips to act like a pro I’d say :
1. Listen the other musicians and find your place to serve the song
2. Work your sound to be ready to play very quickly. Spending 1 hour to find your sound is unacceptable in profession musician world.
3. Do your homework before the session / gig. Learn the bio of the artist you will play for, listen their music , try to enter in their artistic world.
4. Always stay kind , respectable and come always on time
5. Adopt a regular working routine to find your personal touch.
6. Get paid at the end of each gig
7. Think like a musician and not like guitarist.

About software amps: it's definitely true that the latency for a digital amp just screws with playing– but– when you're recording they're absolutely amazing. Record that raw direct signal from your guitar(use a DI or splitter to play through a real amp at the same time) so that you can put the recorded performance through a digital amp. Software amps can sound incredible, and you can easily manipulate the sound instantly– don't disregard them altogether just because of the latency.
Pro tip #6 practice for a good 5 or 10 years and i guarantee you will have the skill of one who has been playing for about 5 to 10 years
