Please be nice guys. I’m actually kinda shy. ???? Here are some of the things and techniques that have made me improve and become better as a bass player. Hope they help. 🙂

  • My tips

    Find the right pick I like 60mm. Enough bend but not too floppy.

    Find a picking technique you like. Downstrokes, alternating down and up, or just up strokes. I play 90% with upstrokes, which is weird. But it works for me. Carol Kane upstroke technique.

    When plucking with your fingers, be sure to keep your fingernails trimmed. And again Find the technique you like; alternate fingers, only index finger, thumbing up and down strokes, popping, etc. Again, I like the James Jamerson one finger technique, the hook. If the song is faster grab a pick.

    Last tip = play songs you like. So practicing is fun. Scales can be boring, but you gotta practice those as well. Playing songs you like will help you notice patterns that are the scales you practice.

  • If you use musical terms to give instruction please know your definitions. You mention staccato to accentuate a note. Staccato and tenuto defines the length of the note. The accentuation of a note is more – accent.

  • Hi,just came across your channel.I'm a female bass player of 36 years and i generally don't find very much helpful bass material on youtube but a few seconds into your video i was hooked!❤️.
    Ive always been a finger player and could never use a pick as it felt awkward.
    The little hack you have with hooking the little finger for support has really helped and given me more 'pick confidence'.
    Even with having very small fingers this technique has made a real difference.

  • Thanks for the great video – earned a new subscriber. I agree best way to learn is small pieces of a song at a time. John Paul Jones is definitely a great one to learn from. I’m also focusing on Van Morrison songs and the Beatles for lines ????????
