Tobias Growler Bass Review

In this video I review my Tobias Growler bass. At the bottom of the description is detailed instructions about the contour switches.

Contour Switches: One for each Channel. Down position gives a low/high boost and cuts mids. Center position turns the contour model off. Up position gives you a low/mid boost.

Internal Trim Pots: Located inside the control cavity. Each set of two effects one channel. Left knob high freq gain for the down position. Right knob low/mid boost for the up position.

  • At 7:40 where you are talking about your favorite settings you mention you like the pickup blend in the middle. However, the blend knob (top row closest to bridge) position sure looks like it is panned to the rear coils. It is blended to the rear coils during the sound sample too.

  • Well…dang! I just got a tobias growler second hand, for what I figure is an incredible price considering that it seems to be able to play any genre exceptionally well. I've looked online for how to use the controls and no one has been able to explain them as eloquently as you have. I've only been playing for about 9 months so thank you!

  • Thats the bass that I play with. Do you have any newer tobias bass's and if so how do the newer compare to the older?

  • I've had mine since 1997 (must be the same model year as the video because they are almost identical). It's still my go to for session gigs, especially if there is more than one style called for, and I have gotten WAY more out of it than I ever paid for it. I'll never sell it.
