  • I use the EP Boost in the Stomp to push edge of breakup amps into full breakup, and it works wonderfully.

  • Fender Engager Boost for me. $70 used, 20dB transparent boost, bass, middle (!), treble parametrics and 600/800Hz switch, switchable true bypass, switchable LEDs on all knobs. Allows perfect tone sculpting, built like a tank and cheap. I put before my ovedrives, works like a charm. Very few boosters have the middle control, it's essential for me.

  • I play a Les Paul and a Tele over an Marshall. I use a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster to bring the Tele neaarly on the same volumelevel as the Les Paul.
    For lead tones I use a boss sd 1 after the booster

  • hate to be that guy but the boost makes the Marshall sound better. Boost is magic. Stacking boosts is magicker.

  • I have 2 Boss pedals in my signal chain. All Boss pedals have inbuilt boost. I love the little tacker helping with the notes, chords and strumming. ????????

  • I use an Xotic EP To boost for solos. After buying a Fulldrive 2 (with boost into drive) I started playing with a boost into a Klon Klone. I actually use a Nux Lacerate for this as it has two levels of drive, giving me three levels of drive overall.

  • I “boost” amps with an overdrive to tighten them and add aggression or I use clean boost in the LOOP to boost the solo volume live.

  • I had an EP Booster for years. Its been in storage for over 15 years. I just watched episode on That pedal show and they were using it the whole episode. I got it out of storage and hooked it up before my drives and how about that it worked wonderfully. Im pretty sure I was hooking it up after my drives and it never sounded that great so I put it away. Now Im glad I didn’t sell it .

  • ????❤ A. She is adorable! B. Your concentration is incredible! C. I think you have a guitar player on your hands. As for boosts, I use Spark for primarily for volume boost. I stack overdrive pedals to get different flavours of gain.

  • I have an old MXR micro amp and a Benson geranium boost, both single knob boxes. I use them to color or squash another overdrives or preamp pedals, like into a Fulltone Plimsoul (the MXR) or into a Hudson Electronics Broadcast BV-24V-USA preamp (the Benson). Those either go into my 1999 Bogner Ecstasy 101b blue channel set to plexi mode (MXR>Plimsoul,) or into a Carvin stereo power amp/weber speaker cabs (Benson>Hudson). Of course, other pedals are in the chain elsewhere…I really like both of them. I experiment occasionally with placement, but always go back to the above setup.

  • I think graphic eq pedals have supplanted plain boost pedals as you can boost or cut flat or or boost or cut a boosted or cut frequency or range from the 7 bands. Parametric eqs could do similar, but are stupidly priced IMO vs graphics.

    I often used a Blues Driver style pedal at jams but once found with a very dark sounding amp it was a muddy combination using that pedal. Fortunately I also had a Danelectro TOD pedal too, and it was night & day difference. The Dano-TOD has a 2 band eq so easy to dial in a tone, as well as boost and if required, distortion.

    AFAIK Jan Akkerman played single coils but changed to HB as the fashion, but needed more top so used a treble booster. He always sounded a bit sharper than the competition but with a HB sound. I thought TBs were just to boost treble but they could also be set for a vol level boost into the 1st stage of a valve amp, for more distortion.

    I was recently checking out a guitar at a show, and the sound was good, but very dry. The amp had no fx loop so the luthier put reverb fx into the amp front, which I was not convinced about. It was ok though, not a purist sound, but an interesting one that I'm going to be experimenting more with.

  • I use two. I have a Nobel ODR Mini early in the chain as a very low gain overdrive / boost – as well as a volume boost if I switch from higher to lower output guitars. Then at the end of the effects loop I have a Lizard Legs Flying Dragon (very transparent) boost in case I need to bump up solos a little more.

  • Nice cameo – mine just mutes everything with one hand for me. I think the boost needs to have some tonal coloration to be useful. Also, if you can get your amp cooking but not quite into full overdrive, it can push a non-master volume amp over the edge when you need it. The only boost I have is considered a "dirty" boost I think – which is the Lovepedal Elephant/Invisible Man Stinger.

  • Allowing your child to not only not let you get distracted, but participate unknowingly in your playing, and you just rolling with it and improvising through it while she muffled the strings or forced you to reposition, it was a beautiful thing to see.

    I use an MXR Timmy set transparent with light Gain as a boost. I also have an MXR 10-band-EQ which can be used as a boost.

  • I feel like Treble Boosters have lost their place in the world. Amps and speakers have become much brighter since Treble boosters were originally developed to add clarity to dark rigs. I can only find a modern purpose for a Treble booster in front of a muddy fuzz — which isn't really modern itself.
