10 Songs That Taught Me Metal (Easy to Effin’ Hard)

???? My full beginner bass course: https://yeah.bassbuzz.com/10metal
Wanna level up your metal game? Here’s 10 songs that helped me suck less at the dark art of metal bass.

All the metal bass tabs + sheet music – https://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/b8677dfa4e53e121a8a44b1007e860932198ccf4

These are 10 songs that taught me metal bass, from “easy” to “almost died in the attempt.” Seriously.

Does that mean all metal is hard? Nah, plenty of metal bass riffs are easy peasy. If you can play them and learn from them, you’ll be a solid bassist that people wanna play with, even if you can’t play flashy.

In this video, you’ll learn:
* How Bob Daisley snuck melodic metal bass behind Ozzy
* Geezer Butler knew when NOT to hammer on
* A System of a Down riff to test your clumsy fretting fingers
* Steve Harris clanks and clacks so freaking fast
* The John Myung line that caused me a Panic Attack
* How Cliff Burton proved that bassists could shred
* How to drive a song HARD like David Ellefson
* Tips from Slayer on writing heartwarming song titles like “Raining Blood”
* The “pick vs fingers” debate settled for the millionth time
* You don’t always need theory…well, you do…but you don’t?
* Low D string = pretty friggin’ metal
* The Racer X song that actually almost destroyed my self confidence

  • On "Run to the Hills", why not play with three fingers, it's all triplets and super easy…

  • As far as it comes to Peace Sells, as a former guitar player, converted to bass: You can play the song finger style as long as you pluck harder. Sounds almost the same if not better by any standards ????

  • It's truly an inspiration being able to see someone who is a baddass at bass, a pro to say the least, struggling with a bassline and still striving to learn. Cause I'm a beginner bassist and I struggle hard with imposter syndrome. Thank you, so much.

  • The funny thing about song 10, I kept hoping you'd somehow include Day of the Baphomets by The Mars Volta, but you did just as well by picking Juan Alderete's old band Racer X. He truly is one of the best of all-time.

  • Hey man! can you recommend me a brand or model of pick? some advice?

  • Cliff Burton, Steve Harris and John Myung. Probably (my) holy trinity of bass players. I literally don't understand how they are able to play certain riffs. (Specially you John, Dance of eternity is literal *hell*)

  • out of all possible songs, you picked paul gilbert and scarified. you are insane.

  • run to hills is not even maiden's fastest gallop.

it was like 150 bpm , steve broke that speed , on 86's Caught some where in time with a gallop that was doing 180 bpm . and then broke it again with the following album (7th son of a 7th son) on the song Only the Good Die Young which was like 195 bpm.

after learning those two , run to the hills feels slow to me.

  • abt run to the hills, its not how hard you hit the strings but how fast. the touch has to be really light. so you can get fast riffs.

  • I just started bass two days ago and I can already play nothing else matters by Metallica and I'm pretty decent already I don't know how I'm already at a intermediate level probably cuz I also play guitar

  • Guy in rancid plays well. Youre supposed to play to the drummer but hyper fast bass is jazz, it's off course

  • did anyone else notice that the album cover in the corner at 1:40 has a cat instead of a man like the original?

  • Just today I told a guy I’m a bassist. He asked if I play Slayer and I was all, “I’m no Tom Araya.” Maybe I should look into that more.

  • You're playing for 20 years and you still feel inadequate. Cliff Burton was already a genius when he died in 24 years old, incredible.
