  • I realize this video is 5 years old now. I truly hope the last 5 years you've grown enough to realize how badly you whored yourself out for this. There are thousands of tones far worse than this. And Justice For All made it and not a single Megadeth album?

  • I mean, i get what you meant by these tones. But have you ever hear ADTR's first album? THAT is what a bad tone sounds like. I couldn't believe what i was hearing first time i listened to it.

  • Those tones are bad by themselves, but somehow work really well with the album they're in.

  • Iron Maiden “Piece of Mind” is a great album with AWFUL guitar sound. It sounds like a slightly off-key muffled mess.

  • Resurrection Through Carnage had bad gutiar tone, zero bass, weird drum things and weird vocals EQ, plus bad production ON PURPOSE ????. still an immense album.

  • October Rust has probably one of the greatest guitar tones ever and the idea that it's bad is derivative of modern garbage standards that shit on anything human or creative.

  • Slayer should have had several spots on this list. You think God Hates sounds bad? Try Divine Intervention. Guitars sound washed out, and some songs suddenly cut off for no reason. And despite being their best album song-wise, the mix on Seasons in the Abyss is terrible. In terms of audio quality, Seasons was a step backwards compared to South of Heaven, which sounded amazing for 1988.

  • I'm pretty sure the Resurrection Through Carnage buzzsaw tone is 100% intentional, and it's most likely a Boss HM-2.

  • How on earth did Bloodbath's "Resurrection through carnage" make this list?? That record is an absolute high water mark in metal guitar tone, produced by one of the most famous sound engineers and musicians in Swedish metal. And it was an HM2, not a Metalzone …

  • If october rust and cowboys had "better" guitar tones or more modern sounding tones it would totally destroy what made me fall in love with them. If you want to hear a truly shitty guitar tone listen to King Diamond "Them." I love that album and the songs are genius but those guitars are so weak and thin its almost unlistenable to me now.

  • If you solo Kirk's guitar solos from Ride the Lightning, it's some of the worst lead tone you will ever hear. But sounds pretty good in the mix

  • The bloodbath album is from the early 2000s
    And no
Its an hm2 and the boost of some wierd multi fx pedal.

  • Far Beyond Driven is the best Pantera guitar tone. Sounds it's super raw, powerful, chunky, but clean and straight at the same time. Vulgar's one sounds nice with the bass, but alone sounds too distorted, like when the amp its too loud and makes interference noise

  • Breeding the Spawn by Suffocation. That tone is atrocious, thin and doesn't stand out at all.

  • They may not be the best tones but a lot of them sound better than the copycat tone of the intro.

  • Type O Negative's tone isn't the guitar. LOL it's the bass. It's a common smooth-brained take that it's the guitar tone but it's not. The bass was often played like a guitar and it made up a bulk of the sound. Fuzzy bass with a ton of chorus. The guitar tone is actually very stock and dull but that's not what is the focus of the sound. The distorted bass is.

  • Fuck someone else finally said it. I took a lot of heat for it from friends and not-so-friends because it’s RR, but yes, his tone at least on that record is pure garbage.

  • I would have loved to have heard the pieces of the songs showcasing the tones. And another thing. I don't know if most people know how much a mix does for the tone. You can compress it, put eq, put harmonic exciters and all, so what you hear in the record is not exactly the og guitar tone. Obviously older albums had fewer options if th3y had a low budgrt since now ypu can use waves and have all plugins, but bavk then they only had so much to work with. Having said that. Too much scooping sounded cool, and a lot of people liked that tone on "and justice" bavk in the day, but the thing is, on metal at least, the bass is as important as the guitar, since a basseless mix sounds amateurish. Now, modern mixes are not a great example, since most sounds today sounds the same and have no body since they are too rectified. So from my perspective, using today's standars as good sound is not a good thing.

  • How did you make the tone on the mix of the i tro? I like it. Spunds crunchy with that spicy thing at the gates slauughter of the ssoul spund has, but with a lot of bass. Great mix

  • I dont really mind the tone on waking the fallen i dont know why its on this list and not sounding the seventh trumpet and also the tone on adrenaline sounds weird but cool its almost like if pixelation had a guitar tone

  • 2:38 If you think this album's guitar tone is bad, I'm not sure whether you've already listened to Gorgoroth's releases ????
