The Top 10 SG Riffs of All Time!
Here’s the one that many of you were asking for!
Often overshadowed by the iconic Les Paul, the SG faced a struggle of acceptance since its inception. After being dismissed by Les Paul himself and insisting his name be removed from the new design, the SG finally found its footing as the perfect option, with many players looking for an instrument lighter in weight, and more cutting in tone.
Towards the end of the decade, legions of artists found themselves wielding the SG to embark on never-before-heard sonic ventures, with a new level of articulation and attack. THIS is the guitar that birthed an entire genre.
When picking out a selection of riffs attributed to this timeless design, we faced the significant challenge of whittling down an immense catalogue to just 10 selections. As such, we’ve included many honourable mentions, that didn’t quite make the cut of the Top 10, but deliver the SG goods just the same, in surprisingly versatile fashion!
Whether you agree with our selections or you find them appalling, let us know your thoughts in the comments below! What would you pick for YOUR Top 10?

So well played and recorded! Impressive quality of the content
It is CRAZY that Black Sabbath, the riff, wasn't even mentioned! Also, why no Sister Rosetta Tharpe? Seriously though, the Doom Meister (Iommi) is no.1.
You can tell jimi just wanted a Gibson strat with how his SG looked
Us old people remember when Carlos Santana played an SG. He moved to PRS because "SGs die". I think he meant that the magnets in the old guitars lost the edge he needed.
Did not expect BYOB it is my favourite SG riff and song
Tony Bourge of Budgie worth a mention
Kids with guitars pathetic
Riffs of all time not groúps you like
'Faith Healer' excellent opener ????
Very good list
6:06
What! No Zappa????
Stairway to Heaven
You got it right.
AC/DC and Black Sabbath probably could have filled the list alone because they've contributed the most to their genres.
That was Peachy. Loved it. I love my SG a bit more.
I wonder what kind of strings that blue sg got?
You had me at “Faith Healer”-Zal Cleminson rules!????
Most of your honorable mentions could have been your list.
you talk too much.
How did billy gibbons miss out?
Love the Angus schoolboy shorts. Most appropriate choice of attire indeed.
I know Thayil technically played a Guild Polara and not an SG, but it's a great irony to not see 'Outshined' on this list.
Silverchair , Daniel plays an SG at times, and good to see the phonics here
I think The Damned "Neat Neat Neat" should get an honorable mention. Brain James' SG snarls and howls with total abandon on this classic punk track.
Congratulations a fantastic selection and great sound. Fantastic guitars, I have a standard black Gibson SG that I love every time I look at it, pick it up and play it. ????????
hell yeah
Derek Trucks??
Angnus
Great video! Thanks!

Best live rock album of all time: Frampton Comes Alive
ANGUS!!!!! but BS very much second. Greta are brilliant though and I'm 60yo
Nailed it with the tie. Just no way around it!
