Rig Rundown – Death From Above 1979’s Jesse Keeler
Article and photos: http://bit.ly/DFA1979RR
Premier Guitar was allowed an in-depth look at the touring rig of Jesse Keeler, the bass player in Death From Above 1979. Keeler has inspired a devout following of bass players to take on a new role in punk, and his unique approach to gear has helped solidify DFA’s sound and propel them into cult status.
After being a longtime Rickenbacker user, Keeler is now very comfortable with a ’69 Dan Armstrong. He likes the short scale, 24-fret design, which better suits his playing style and approach than anything he’s ever played.
A ’71 tags along as a backup, and the only mod is a “permanent” bridge to keep his intonation constant.
Keeler also utilizes a vintage JUNO-60 keyboard which runs through his rig as well.

"knock on wood paneling"
8:34 “I don’t use distortion.”
Come again sir? Lmao
It's funny how I come back to this vid every now and then. I think a lot of us that play and watch this kind of content fall into GAS pretty often. But, this guy is a shining example of why the gear is not the most important part ????????????
Jesse is cool
he looks like an elf
Hello fellow Peavey lovers!
18:18 "knock on wood-paneling…" ????
I could've bought an Armstrong bass like that for the cheap years ago but passed.Been kicking myself in the ass ever since.????
this guy's been such an inspiration for me growing up. His "I don't care what you think is cool, as long as it works" attitude is on point. A real professional. Anyone can add stuff. A pro knows how to whittle things away until only the pure essence remains. And I've always loved people who play a "dirty" bass. A bass like a lead instrument, instead of just a backing reinforcement sound (a glorified human octaver pedal for the lead guitarist).
"Don't know how many times you can screw out of lucite". For soft stuff like plastic, you put a helical (threaded insert) in, its a metal barrel that new bolts can then screw into. That way when you adjust the bolt, it's now wearing against the helical, not the plastic. You'll see them a lot in laptop cases, for example, because screwing onto raw plastic would wear super quickly and is very weak.
Need a 2022 update for this, he’s using two Orange Bax Bangeetar into some kind of power amp on the current tour, new pedals on the board too.
I have not heard a song by them yet, but I'm already a fan….
Did you catch what case he uses for his Dan Armstrong? I can’t imagine they are original. They are such wonky basses I’m curious what case fits it
Jesse has probably had more influence on me and my playing than any other bassist, guitarist, drummer or musician in general. My tone and taste in basses has just become more and more like his. I use a epiphone woody allen with a zoom 4 bass multi effect pedal and I use alot of treble and overdrive.
I like this band.
This guy has what might be the most bad-assed bass tone ever!
I’m a drummer….. but this speaks to me.
This was a good one, thanks
Blew me away when I found out this setup minus the bases were 300… crazy good band!
Creeep with the duncecap. You just know chicks run screaming from this geek.
Let me just say, that setup is no longer 300 bucks after saying that.
$300 for his gear. You get what you pay for.
This equipment is really getting expensive
Let me be clear: there are truckoalds of basses with 24 frets. but only playing fender, gibson and rickenbacker is detrimental to that realization.
I played gtr in band (DOD High School in Germany) & had the guitar version of that Peavey.
The closed fly inherently squeal because policeman sporadically tick underneath a awake share. bustling, torpid pakistan

What kind of speaker colum does he use in holy book
