Shop Talk: Lucas Harwood of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard // Serek Basses
I often judge a band by how badly I want to play bass in it. King Gizzard is at the very top of that list.
Lucas recently paid our shop a visit and we sat down to talk about his bass skills, KG’s Microtonal Universe, socks, and more.
Enjoy!

Queer sticker on his bass…….. so brave
RIP phil..
Lucas Harwoon, notorious tone poker! Best tone in the game
MELTING
I love that band, and I love Midwestern basses
Curious how the B-string sounds with a short scale, passive pickup in neck position, and flats.
Seems to go against the “wisdom” of some bass players: 35”+ scale, bridge pickup, and rounds just to get the string to register in a mix.
Does his 4 string Midwestern have an ebony or rosewood fretboard? Tks
How did you manage to not show the fret board during Pleura ugh
This band is incredible and I love that he uses Serek basses
11:00 love this question, really struggling to find an answer better than Boston for me – that debut album is unreasonably good for a record made by one dude in the 80s
No le entendí ni verga te amo
hell yeah! I don't play bass but I found this very interesting nonetheless. I've just begun dicking around trying to learn keyboard and that word of advice at the end was immensely encouraging. thanks ya'll!
I love KGLW, but blue pills are toxic and so is that colourful flag on his guitar. Reject corporate degeneracy.
one of my fav bass brands ever i hope to own one some day <3 love lucas amazing
Lucas is the real King of the group. Quiet and reserved but holds the bass line DOWN. Locked into a groove and marathons it!
You’re a legend Lucas!
the sticker on the bass made me really happy as a gay bassist 🙂
Ha! he acts chill here but if you talk to them after a show when their adrenaline is flowing they are off the walls! Haha love this man and his band.
wholesome
I've had the same recurring dream!! I'm on stage the band is counting down to the next song and I don't know what the song is ahahahah
The nuclear fusion bass line got me all ????????RAAHHHHH
Love this band. Bass player of course, under rated.
What if he said red pilled ? Would he be kicked out of the band and cancelled for life ? What a sick cult we live in. The stupid freak flag on the bass. Such virtue signaling nonsense. Can’t even have an interview about bass playing without getting into politics
awesome interview. id love to try one of these basses some day
this is an awesome series Jake! would love to see other Serek bass hero’s; Chuck Jones, Justin Coleman, Gordo to name a couple
Static Electricity will always be my fav bass line <3
Great video!
Lucas is like the secret sauce for the Gizzard.
What a cool, humble down to earth bloke – he is a way better player than he is giving himself credit for here
"serek" means "little cheese" in polish
I love Lucas!! Harwood!
Love the band, the player, the bass etc just disappointed to see the political statement made on said instrument…
One of the most humble people on the planet. We love Lukie
Love the questions y’all asked Lucas. Really dig this interview!
I love Luke's playing, but his recent choice to stick to mellow vintage tones while the rest of the band voes metal means I can barely hear him in the mix.
Lukey is such a gem ❤ great interview!
I have that same recurring dream about drumming ????
Great interview, that high pitched ringing in the audio is a bit rough though
11:40 this is why I love Gizz. I'm a newb bassist at age 43, been playing only 4 years, and Gizz songs are so much fun to learn on because as they progress as musicians, so do I.
Lukey just seems so chill and nice
Admit it: we ALL came here in the hopes of seeing 7:39
you teased this so brilliantly. ive been so excited for this interview!
LUKEEEEEYYYYYY
Honesty, humility.
The mark of any true expert in their field (any field) is that they all know they don't really know anything…
Its sick he mentioned Phil Lesh, definitely an underrated bass player with a unique style and tone
This is awesome, love hearing some behind the scenes from Lukey ❤️
great video. Yall should get cameron picton next
