Thanks to a rather vicious bout of Covid, I missed out on the launch of the Fractal Audio VP4. But I’m back now and can tell you that if you’re looking for a multieffect device of the very highest order – no amp or cab sims, just effects – then the VP4 should be considered. The effects selection is oceanic. I’m going to upload a heap of stuff about the VP4 over the coming months, but I’ll try not to get all hoopla and gushy about it, I just want to let you hear the thing. So, Pt.1. This one tips a hat to my brother, Scott Kingman.

  • It's amazing to have Fractal Audio effects in pedal form. I'm glad you're feeling better enough to have fun with the VP4 Brett!

  • Thank you, Brett! Just ordered mine yesterday. I have an FM9 Turbo for my studio but I'm still an amp guy onstage, so the VP 4 is a bullseye for me. Great demo!

  • Great video Brett.
Looking forward to more videos. I would be interested how you interface to fm3/fm9 and what the preset looks like

  • I WISH this thing could change amp channels and have 2 loops then it would kick my HX FX oof the board.

  • Brett, Really liking what i’m hearing on your VP4 – i’m looking for something to marry to my nano cortex or tonex – but not sure how to do that- thinking about using this AFTER my amp sim for time-based patches and then running a compressor and OD in front of the amp sim box – any ideas greatly appreciated!

  • I've had a short time with mine, and I could see running 2 VP4s, one pre and one post (out in stereo). The Fractal effects are top-notch. I might still want a couple analog drives in there. And, using the VP4(s) with the Ethos Clean Fusion Deluxe might just be a dream come true.

  • Hi Brett, great video. What do you think of the GX-10 vs the VP4 as an effects only? I use the UAFX Lion and Enigmatic for my amp sounds with some drive pedals, and looking for something to cover reverbs/modulation. Thanks in advance!

  • This unit is the HX Effects all grown up, hitting the gym and taking steroids. It's nuts. Way overkill for me, as I typically don't use much in the way of effects but it's an amazing piece of kit.

  • Glad you’re feeling better Brett, I was thinking it had been a minute since I’d seen a video.
The VP4 is amazing, makes me want to sell my HX Effects & get one. The reverbs alone are worth the price.

  • greetings Mr Kingman.

    I have a question for you…
I’m ready to move on from the XL2+ and I was thinking the FM9 would be the good/right choice. I’m also wanting to physically reduce the amount of gear that I have. Currently I have the AxeFX XLII+, a Matrix Pre-Amp, and a patch-panel, all mounted into a SKB road case. Outside of that I have 2 x Matrix NL FR Cabs, and finally the Fractal MFC101 foot controller.

I want to sell all of that gear and start fresh. The AxeFX3 for me is too much for me, in the sense of I will never use it to its fullest capacity. I’m an amateur not a pro, hence why the FM9 makes sense to me. I have my laptop so I can still design my own presets & scenes as previous, so nothing has changed there. I do want to purchase another pair of FR speakers. The NL’s are 60watts a piece, and their sound is incredible, yet their physical size is something I want to address. I’m wanting the same output and clarity, but approx half the size (or half the width minimum).

Brett your wise words of wisdom, and recommendations would be most appreciated.

    cheers
    Ewan
