  • It‘s wrong! It‘s all wrong! Wrong wrong wrong. From sound to groove……! Take a j bass turbeverything off except open the front pickup about 70% not more. Then play behind the beat for thebmost part and thank me later.

  • Completely nailed the typical bassman duckface. ???? Jokes aside, great job, your playing was spot on with the original ????????

  • Nice tone and playing, I love reggae.

I don’t have deep knowledge of reggae players, but my favorite Aston bass parts:
    Who the Cap Fit
    War
    I Shot the Sheriff

  • I hate to be that negative guy, but this isn't a good tutorial – she's transcribed the lines wrong. And the whole palm mute thing and exaggerated behind the beat playing isn't really where it's at. There's actually lots of great session players that play reggae very well in Germany, including entire bands that play behind Jamaican artists on festivals. Would love to see a tutorial from one of those players !

  • I wanted to clarify something. Although the P-Bass with flatwounds was certainly used often for Jamaican riddims, and one can definitely get a good solid reggae bass sound from one, Barrett and Shakespeare were known for using the J-Bass.

    My favorite reggae bass lines.

“Draw your Brakes” (Scotty dub of Prince Buster’s “Stop that Train”)

“All Night, till Daylight” (Jacob Miller with Inner Circle)–Ian Lewis

“96 Degrees in the Shade” (Third World)–Richard Daley

“Trenchtown Rock” (Bob Marley Live)–Aston “Family Man” Barrett
"Africa Unite" (Bob Marley & the Wailers)–Aston “Family Man” Barrett

    “Two Sevens Clash” (Culture)–Lloyd Parks
    “Handsworth Revolution” (Steel Pulse)–Ronald McQueen

    “Bredda Gravalicious” (Wailing Souls)

    “Plastic Smile” (Black Uhuru)–Robbie Shakespeare

    “Babylon Buildings” (Chris Combette)

“Mother and Child Reunion” (Paul Simon)–Jackie Jackson

I often play reggae bass myself. Reggae is one of the forms that got me into bass playing to start with.
