What? No.
8:25 All the time you gotta leave the space
I think Tony Levin hit with the pick on the upstroke as well, not the downstroke
Sounds so much like "Tell Me Something Good"
Dryer blew out on me last year, had to take a bunch of laundry to laundromat. Sledgehammer was for some reason every 3rd video on their network. Great video too
Sound like “ tell me something good”
Actually, did Tony ever say he used a pedal? Because probs not. Imagine Peter having the humongus studio and then you really think they would use some puny pedal?
What is overlooked is the 6:55 is that when Levin holds the note – just for a moment – they let the lead guitar take prominence and rather than hearing a gap, or absence, you just feel the underlying groove.
Dumb gimmick that could only have originated in the 80s.
Wait a minute….is the Seinfeld theme a rip off of sledgehammer? I’m playing along to this and my muscle memory keeps taking me there ????
Nick Beggs
Downvote for the thumbnail/clickbait title
Carles Benavent? Anyone?
Fretless with a pic and some effects on all those Paco de Lucia and Camaron albums.
According to a Rick Beato interview, he used his daughter's diapers to dampen the strings when he recorded "Don't Give Up" in the studio, Peter Gabriel called it the "Super Wonder Nappie Sound" xD
I think this is my favorite bass part in any song ever. I love Tony Levin so damn much
You're a funny pair…
why is he wearing a glove?
Where can I buy funk fingers? i´m based in europe and i can not find it online… please help! Thanks
You forgot he used a mm bass
I'm a big fan of Tony Levin but he wasn't the first to use drumsticks on a bass.
Check out Big Noise from Winnetka by the Bobcats.
Talk about locking to a common pocket.
First recorded in 1938!
✌✌
2:57 Swung 16th notes
3:43 Eb major pentatonic
3:50 flat seven
4:07 slide
4:09 slide
5:26 verse
6:06 that octave is really good at tracking
6:52 So much space
See it can be fun to listen to base nerds, congrats! Most guys are boring, you're a joy!
Pretty dynamic tune
Didn't know the song "Sledgehammer" and thought you were talking about Tony Levin himself, and I was rather disappointed when I learned that a man that looks like that isn't nicknamed Sledgehammer. Thankfully my disappointment was quickly lifted by the Funk Fingers. Would be a bomb nickname though.
???? cool and funy
