???? Description: Today we are taking a look at the new Epiphone Les Paul Junior from the Original Collection. At $379 – are they worth buying? When the Les Paul Special is only $20 more, I thought it was a no-brainer, but I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what we find in today’s video!

If you’re set on buying an epiphone Les Paul, these provide quite a bit of value – but if you’re willing to branch out into other brands – $379 can take you a LONG way in today’s market.

  • If you really want a Les Paul Jr, these are a viable option – but if you're a beginner just looking for a guitar, other brands do offer quite a bit more options for the same money.

  • Bought the epi yesterday after playing the $1500 Gibson Junior. The epi was superior in every way for $1000 less. The Gibson finish was sloppy/drippy. Glue oozing from the nut. Check scratches all over the finish (new guitar). It was nothing more than a monstrosity. Played like crap. 30 mins of playing and spent more time tuning after strings bends. Had sweetwater pull this epi out of the warehouse and after a quick tuning it played like butter…no re-tuning necessary. Finish was immaculate. Bought the epi and swore off Gibson forever. It's sad that the Chinese factories QC is superior to Nashville factory. Gibson can pound sand.

  • 7:22 old video, but it still add value: you do have to lubricate them, the only materials that are self-lubricated are TUSQ XL (different from regular TUSQ) and graphite, everything else requires/benefits from lubrication

  • Gibson does the same thing a Junior is $1599 and the Special is $1799. The Juniors are amazing but should not cost that much. I wanted both but you cant get a TV yellow Junior for under $3500 new from Gibson. Id pay $1500 for a T.V. jr but the ebony or burst.

  • This was my first electric guitar in 2021 and probably my favourite still. I love the way chords ring out clearly on it compared to my other guitars

  • Fair enough review. It's certainly a bargain value, even in 2024. I do agree with the thought about a Special vs Junior…. the second pickup for less than the cost of lunch at a real restaurant. I don't have any problem with the mahogany veneer grain (it's more attractive than the yellowed out center of the present Gibson models), but think matching the sides with the burst would be prettier. It's a cheap guitar made in numbers that would keep it from reaching "vintage" status, so break out the rattle can to lose the cheesy black to clear demarcation. Original Juniors were dark on the sides (maybe the wood darkened over the decades?)- a friend still has an original '54 that he won't give up to me. This one sounded good on computer speakers, but a pickup upgrade wouldn't be rocket science if desired, and most people buying these are playing in their living room anyway, like I would as an old man. ….used Specials in Burst start around a grand right now in January '24, and some say the used market is coming down. I never liked TV Yellow even back in the 60s.

  • I paid $75 for a used epiphone les Paul special 2-p90s.. flat black.
it is my favorite guitar. I have a Gibson Les Paul, classic P 90s, I have a Gibson Les Paul standard gold top HH I have an epi- 56. Replica gold top P 90s… But this special, the El cheapo guitar that I think sold for 179 Dollars New plays better, and I can’t tell any difference in the tone.. I went to my local guitar store. I was going to buy the new EPI special in TV yellow. It looked interesting with the binding on the neck, and four pots. I plugged the TV yellow guitar in. I do not like the neck as much as my Flat black P90 special…..
I put locking tuners on my gibson Ebony classic P90 guitar. And I’m going to put the gibson standard tuners from the gibson classic on my EPI flat black P90 special. I’m also going to sell my 2018 gibson classic Ebony with P 90s. It has a flaw at the neck joint that I missed. I actually have a video of it on my YouTube channel comparing the bang up job they did at the gibson factory to my other Les Paul’s…
I have a small collection of guitars. As well as my flat black, Les Paul P90 special plays.. it just does not justify me keeping the gibson classic, because the cheap guitar is actually easier to play and sounds the same, and it has no flaws, but the classic has flaws from the factory..
I always thought it was BS when people complained about workmanship quality of gibson‘s lately. But my classic is proof that there is an issue with quality control. Especially when you consider that all of my EPI guitars are perfect. I show that in the video I made that is on YouTube. Only my gibson is flawed.
One other little thing that gripes me..
road worn guitars… guitars that were obviously attacked with a sander to make them look like they’ve been played for 150 years. When actually, I would bet money that what they are doing there, is rather than throw the rejects away, they’re calling them road, worn and doubling the price. They’re turning a liability into an asset, and laughing all the way to the bank. I guess the next thing to Expect is brand new cars that have dented fenders and rips in the interior selling for double what a perfect new car sales floor. And then probably Miss universe contest, with not very attractive contestants, Calling Them road worn.. having them on the runway being charged wearing clothes that are ripped, stockings with runs in them, in need of dental work. and rather than having a goal of doing good around the world, having them talking about, not very nice things that nobody cares about like their old pick up truck..
I have guitars that I have owned since the 1960s when I was in high school. I played those guitars all through high school, through the garage bands, through the smoky bar bands, I played them for many decades. And they have very little wear showing. Even the fender, jazz master that has a crap finish from the factory. It doesn’t look anywhere near as bad as these New road worn Guitars look..
A Road Warren guitar is not going to have sanded off finish on the top, it’s going to have where between the frets, and on the frets.. there’s going to be some corrosion on the nickel plated stuff. There’s gonna be dirt and corrosion on the backs of the machines, there will be dancing around the headstock, there will be pick scratches on the pic guard.. there’s going to be discoloration in the front board wood from the sweat and oils in your hand..
I can’t believe the suckers that get ripped off buying these guitars that they put a few dents in, or they have mismatched wood in the tops or in the body, so they decide that they can’t, so that’s perfect, they just put a few dents and scratches in it and attack it with a sander and then they raise the price..
what is this world coming to? Next I’ll be selling new electric cars that need a new battery, or new houses that need a new roof, how about worn out Nike tennis shoes with holes in the soles..
    PT Barnum was right…
