In this video, I’m putting the affordable Guild Surfliner HH in Shoreline Mist through its paces. Its a quirky guitar with a switching system that won’t please everyone but those with a desire for the slightly left of the middle guitars should be pleased. It is clear that Guild are going after Squier Players with STYLE.
The Guild Surfliner HH features a poplar body and 23-fret maple neck, with Alnico II humbuckers for warm, versatile tones. Its Shoreline Mist finish provides a distinctive look, while the 10” radius C-shaped neck ensures comfortable playability. This guitar includes a push-pull coil-split function, allowing players to access a range of tones from single-coil to humbucker sounds. Staggered vintage-style tuners offer stability, making it an ideal choice for beginners and experienced players alike.

I looked at these not too long ago and was really impressed. Good in depth review.
Youtube just decided to recommend your channel to me – took a while, considering how long your channel and I are on here – but, I like it. I´m vibing with your style and the infomration is good. Plus, you somehow remind me of Benedict Cumberbatch….don´t know why though. Nice video 🙂
Playable out of the box for a good price, good tone, and some vintage vibe, from an American company. This guitar seems like a bargain. Polishing frets is not rocket science. I don't mind.
Why Guild was so forgotton is beyond me. Glad theyre back and diagnosed healthy now. That one reminds me of a Peavey.
Check out the Guild Surfliner Deluxe in Black, it's a beast….
The only Guild I’ve ever owned before was a 1967 F20, a sweet little acoustic intended for beginners. I have a feeling my second Guild guitar might just be a Surfliner
Angled headstock is not a good feature unless you want a headstock that's easy to crack or break off completely like Gibson.
The rain song
Dang that's a cool new vibe from the Guild folks .. I'm kinda tempted ..!
I like it! Pickups look like Japanese but sound Gretschy. 23 frets may be a first
Those pickups sound great!
Isn't Guild owned by Fender?
Lots of nice guitars coming out of Indonesia.
Was hoping for some Kim Thayil behind-the-bridge picking.
Oooh my goodness gracious! Me definitely does likey this one!
A lot a lot!
Great content Andy!
Cheers!
Play "Walk, Don't Run" on this thing first up for sure… Top video once again Andy…
Awesome guitar and great vibe. I'd play "Hold the Line" first. No reason, just because.
Guild and Gretsch make the best affordable guitars in my opinion. My guild polara (although not quite as affordable as these) is my number one guitar.
Can you do a separate video about the bag?
Cheers for the review Andy. Ive been looking at Guild's Surfliners for a while, so thanks for your input.
First song (apart from my own), Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues.
????????
Why the switches instead of a normal 3 way switch? More crap to go bad. At that price point, I’m sure those aren’t the highest quality switches.
I am almost 40. I've just started writing my first song. That guitar would be for sure a motivation. I like how much 'not-a-strat-ripoff' it is.
I've been mostly playing acoustic lately, and I have a bunch of electrics…but this is the first electric in a while that makes me want to get one. Great review!
this is an excellent guitar… managed to get one for $250… amazing!
"Surfliner" is the name of the train that passes by my house in California.
No mention of the hairdryer switches? ????
Great unbox and exploration of that beautiful Guild guitar. The first song I think I would play on it is Freebird by LS, to check out its nice variety of tones from the splittable hum-buckers. I think the shift to lead from rhythm would be quite interesting..cheers!
This guitar seems a little too microphonic.
I have two guild acoustics from the westerly collection, the 8 string baritone and the orchestra shaped and I love them more than I can type
The Kids Are Alright by the Who.
Wipe Out! Would be my first song…
Love Guild
13.437% of tone was lost when the pick guard film was removed.
Feel free to do some knob dickin'.
That is a lovely looking and sounding guitar! Good video.
I do like the look of that but by Christ!! That neck looks like someone hacked down a telegraph pole, split it and hammered some frets into the flat side! The size… the GIRTH!!! Lol
It really is a great looking instrument though, and I don't really like many new instruments these days and…. dramatic pause… I'm a Luthier and frustrated builder.
I have the Surfliner HH in canyon dusk. It really doesn't look purple at all in person, it's more of a dark metallic grey/charcoal color.
From the first strums I was in love. I am glad you changed your mind on the tones, they are very nice. I play clean tones and this guitar sounds fantastic. It actually has sweet complex tone possibilities. It is on my buy list. Great addition to my Telecasters and Gretsch guitars. Thank you for the thorough review.
The first song I'd play is "panda panda panda" by Deerhoof.
Just another cheap guitar. The market is flooded.
