Solid state guitar amps are usually a bummer. They sound okay but rarely FEEL as good as a tube guitar amp. Enter Pat Quilter and Quilter Amplification.
Today’s video features the Quilter Aviator Mach 3 Combo, a 200 watt 1×12 solid state guitar amp. It is THE BEST solid state guitar amplifier I’ve ever played! It’s very straight-forward and easy to use as well. Two identical channels give access to a wealth of amp styles from Tweed and Blonde “Fender” styles to Plexi and D-style voicings. It’s an amp collection in a combo!
I’ll show you what sets the amp apart from the pack as well as my favorite settings.

We have this amp over here…
It’s fantastic.
You have to learn how to dial in what you want.
Read The Manual ????????
There’s important information in there on how to get the sound you want out of this amp.
We fight over this amp over here…????????
Bit the buillet – ordered mine! Seems like a lot of folks switch to quilter from tube amps, but I'm moving from digital modeling (Helix + FRFR) to analog solid state! I'm excited to have gear that doesn't need too much menus/computer stuff. I'm gonna run my HX stomp in the fx loop for wet effects!
Haven't looked at another amp in probably 8 years since I got my Quilter Micro Pro Mach 2…
My friend is a good guitar player, he brought over his quilter? It sounded like an amp with two packing blankets thrown over it?
Well, to me, I don't think so. You need to play the laney Foundry Amp and also a solid state with fewer knows and better tone. Check it out.
I had a Quilter briefly. I found it had no punch when playing in a band situation.
I’ve barely touched my valve amps (around 20 of them) since I got my Aviator Mach 3 a couple of years ago. The light weight, massive power, ability to sound great at any volume, and solid state reliability tick all the right boxes for me. 10 years ago I wouldn’t have even considered solid state.
I love my Quilter 101 so much. Takes pedals so good! I have 2 valve pedals i run into it and it sounds amazing! Rivals many tube amps. Been going strong for 6 years.
It's a little confusing how the 2 channels work – do you have to plug into one or the other separately? Does the footswitch do something to help this? Good video, thanks!
Even better than the jazz chorus? I'll watch intently
the Hughes & Kettner Stopman is a good bare bones solid state tube emulation….but that Aviator Mach 3 looks pretty feature packed, more flexible, more gain, more power, and in a consolidated amp package……the H&K has the sag control, which would be something like the different amp circuits, but since I can't afford either right now, i would tend to the low hanging fruit.
Thanks for the video, do you still use the Black Spirit 200?
It sounds very good, and the quality and consistency of Quilter amps can’t be questioned. I’m curious tho, what good is a 200 watt amp? I figured that would be if you were playing SoFi Stadium or something.
There is some logical question. There are a lot of solid state pedals which mimic tube amps perfectly. Why can't somebody make solid state amp like that? This drive sound is sooo typically harsh, uncompressed and "transistory" unpleasant. The only exception in this ballpark is Boss Katana.
That thing is badass.
You live right beside quilter and that may influence your perception
