  • Scott, is the boss m-e 90 somewhat of a dream come true for you in terms of the analogue functionality as well as the compact all in one package?

  • Everyone says POG, but I'm team MXR Poly Blue Octave. You also get a fuzz, vibrato, and phaser along with your 2 down 2 up and 1 down and 1 up octaves.

  • I am a drummer, and of course I love my dear bass player brothers. Keep up the good work and vibe between the 2 of you. Cheers

  • Bass Whammy crushes all because it consistently tracks – mono and poly. You don't have to cater to it, just turn it on and play.

  • Both Scott and Ian are correct on tuna. Canned tuna is disgusting cat food, tuna tatake at decent sushi restaurant is amazing.

  • Can you do a parallel mix with pedals, can you show some unique sounds, I would watch that

  • I think the MXR sounded the best, and bought one ????. The HX One is "the one pedal you don't have" on your pedalboard. I still have the M5 for the occasional tribute gig, wedding or whatever comes up that requires a specific effect.

  • If I ever needed to program a digital setlist in a multi effect I'd have to hire someone to do it. I realize they have there place but I hate doing that stuff and would rather build pedalboards all day than figure out one of those infernal boxes. lol.
I've always gotten my gigs playing bass but Im also a lifelong guitar nerd, so I've "collected" a buncha pedals over 30 years. But I rarely use any of them on bass. I play Americana and Bluesy/Retro type stuff mostly and its just not necessary.
But right now Im in an originals rock band and my board is huge by my standard: Jazz Bass>Boss Tuner>JHS Whitey Tidy comp>Boss ODB-3(set to minuscule dirt)>GE7(general problem solver and boost)>amp. I might have a use for another effect at some point, Ive got plenty to experiment with, mostly "guitar" pedals, but right now Im just learning the darn songs, lol. I acknowledge I need to get me a Sans Amp type box, and I'd love own some Origin stuff, but hey I have guitar GAS thats my excuse. On my upright I just need my trusty Shadow pickup/preamp, and amplification appropriate to the situation. That could be Direct to House, a 40w amp, a 200-300w amp, or an Ampeg 8×10, just depends, lol.

  • I actually liked no 1 and 6! I dont like that square-wave synth sound. I use synths for that ????

  • They didn’t quite remember Scott’s reactions in the correct order. Actual comments from Scott in order:

Pedal 1: Lovely. It’s a smooth octave. I like the bottom end.
Pedal 2: A little more synthy. Nice bottom end.
Pedal 3: I like that the least out of the three so far. Everything in me wants that to be the most expensive one or the cheapest.
    Pedal 4: There’s a different element to that. That’s all I’m saying.
Pedal 5: Nice. I like that. It’s got that edge in the lower end again. It’s got an angular edge to the sound.
Pedal 6: Egh. Down there with the third one I think. I’m not that into that one.
    Pedal 7. It’s Ok. Mmph.
Pedal 8. I dig that one. Very synthy. Like it. I really want that to be the Behringer!
Pedal 9. That’s nice too. I think I like the penultimate one.

  • Cool ! I have to have a few as trying to use cheap class D power amps (TPA3255/
TPA3116) 50 years ago my idea of good sound at the local store was (with round wounds) Traynor YBA-3 Custom Special amp head (4X EL34) driving two Traynor folded horn 18" speaker cabinets – no pedal – no transistors/op amps – lovely tone considering the small bandwidth of the folded horn cabinets. That today could be nice with midrange speaker added to he basshorn.

  • People who play multi-effects without knowing what they are based on seriously miss out on carefully selected items to solve particular problems. The nineties played a bad trick on those of us that came up on hearing one trick per unit, well thought out rack matrices. Anyhow, worth every penny. 😉

  • Ive played 30 years and just got a DI,then a stomp. Getting a d.i. changed everything for me

  • question of the week. simple. it sucks but he does not get writing credits. he was paid for the session. They should have asked him to re-record. but that's it. I agree with Ian.

  • @devinebass try the Line6 HX Effects, which is a multi-effects unit without the amp modeling. That said, I started with that to replace all my individual effects (and was paid for by selling those) and then went to a Stomp XL to gain the ability to DI with an amp and cab modeled.

  • I never played with pedals. I hear I should get one of these three first: compression, octaver and fuzz/distortion. I am curious to get a pedal because I never used it. Before this didn't even think of getting a multi effect one

  • After playing bass for more than 20 years without any effects, i decided to pick up the new Zoom MS60-B+ and I'm having a blast! This thing does everything and sounds great doing it.

  • With Multi-effects pedals these days there are analogue, digital, and digital modelling effects pedals. These are different options.
I use a Korg AX5B multi-effects pedal which goes into a Behringer BDI21 Bass Preamp Di. I ues the AX5B for reverb, and chorus effects.

  • About the bad session Scott had, its all the producers fault. Why? Because that's where communication starts. It's not up to the session player to know exactly what the session needs. It's the Producer/engineer's job to hear the session, and his job to communicate that to the players. An American Footballer doesn't instinctively know that the quarterback intends a sneak, he must communicate that to the team in the huddle. But, as you both say, it's not the receivers job to criticize the quarterback, as the audience will be doing that enough for everyone. I'm guessing the session Scott was involved with was crap without his original bass work? I hope so,anyway.

Know this is 7 months old, and I'm just catching up. trying not to over comment.

  • Way behind on watching this but Scott should definitely try out the boss me90b. Only 400 here in the states but can do a lot and has intuitive easy to use knobs.

  • Obviously did not get to hear everything the pedal can do but the Octabvr was my least favorite as well. The MX was my favorite.

  • The boss bass synth is my favorite pedal. It’s quirky and sounds absolutely amazing on both guitar and bass. I love it so much I bought two ????
