THE RETURN OF BANNED ESP JAMES HETFIELD GUITARS??

Guitar of the Day! Taking a look at a recent post on ESP’s social media that some took as a suggestion that ESP was bringing back the Eclipse-I, a shape Gibson has banned them from using in the US. Turns out this James Hetfield-inspired “Les Paul” was just an ESP Original Japan Custom build, but I have no doubt ESP are keeping an eye on Gibson and Dean’s legal battle over “generic” shapes… MX-220 anyone??

  • FD is obviously right that racism and sexism played a role. It’s unsurprising that white male class reductionists in o audience don’t like to talk about that or address it directly but it doesn’t change reality

  • Y’all gots to look for used lespauls before 2004 if you want a good Gibson Les-Paul found my 1997 classic with a hard case I’m soooo happy I did!! For a 27 yr old guitar it still ROCKS!! ????????✊????

  • Gibson needs to stop focusing on suing people and make better guitars for a reasonable price

  • I’d argue James Hetfields iron cross or rust explorer are the best guitars to come out of the st. Anger era

Just a short list of some guitar brands that we can buy instead of supporting Gibson(/Epiphone/Kramer) and their litigious bullshit trying to stifle competition and suppress the free market. ????????
All of the above mfgrs. offer some kind of 24.75"(ish) guitar in some kind of Gibson(ish) shape.

  • I understand why Gibson wants to protect their I.P. but come on, the cat out of the bag! Plus, WTF! we're talking about the addition of one knob! #Gibson, stop being a knob

  • Damn that sucks because that's an awesome looking guitar and I'm not particularly in the market to buy one any time soon but I wouldn't be able to resist this one that purple color is SICK!

  • Esp do it pls. There are no good guitars in this colour. I really want one.

  • Legally the Les Paul, flying V and Explorer should really be considered generic shapes. They've been copied so much that there's hardly anything unique about it anymore.

To me it's no different than a fender Strat or Telecaster

The only thing i could keep kinda see a point in is the iconic headstock.

  • lol click bait, it was a one off I follow esp closely but I was like maybe agufish knows something I don’t, I have the esp version but wish it was full thickness like your edwards

  • Why do you only cover expensive models?
There's other cool guitars that aren't over 300 bucks bro bro

  • Gibson just needs to license out their guitar shapes, they would make huge money with licenses. Gibson will always make money making their original classic designs. But for modern designs Gibson just cant compete.

  • All I need is the MX shape to return. The first two years of that production would generate a shit ton of revenue

  • PRS already had the lawsuit that showed the 4 knob layout was not unique and not valid to trademark or patent. They don't sell them in the US since they already have an agreement not to do it, and it lets them copy other shapes without issue. It isn't worth the risk since it would cost too much to litigate, and they could be in trouble with the firebird and SG shaped stuff enough that it would go to court for a long battle.

  • could you imagine if fender kept trying to sue everyone making strats or teles

    Reply
  • No one should be able to own a guitars body shape, or even the headstock shape. It just screams insecurity from the luxury brands. But they refuse to innovate so it makes sense they'd be pressured by smaller companies that build guitars worth their asking price

  • Gibson can "Go ** (rhymes with truck) a goat!!"????????✨

I love ut when I get to quote "40 Year Old Virgin " when I can. ????????✨

  • I'm sorry but the one thing I can't stand for the way overpriced guitars I mean look at the Epi's 59 Les Pauls a stain finish on a AAA 1st off.2nd IS THE PRICE DIFFERENCE between the new runs and old and only thing different is the neck& headstock and 3rd is the cost of a 1000$ guitar and a gig bag ahahhhhaahhh WHHHHYYYYYYY and how many have got messed up shipping and cost i will not a 1000$ great axe to have it shipped in a gig bad just not going to work for me ;

  • Honestly drives me wild that not once had the Fender case been referenced for precedent. Dean should have this lawsuit in the bag just off of that alone.
