  • They all sounded pretty similar. Definitely not a $300 difference there.

  • The stock speaker is okay, and as you said, with some EQ help, it could sound better. However, comparing the Alnico and the Eminence Rex, I'm going with the Rex. It's less "spiky" than the Alnico. But that's just my preference.

  • I have this amp..got it for 200 on sale..for the price, love it.cant bet it..alot of the sound on an amp, comes from the speaker

  • Super helpful for this irrepressible tinkerer who will often change things up with guitar and amp electronics or components just to see how it affects tone – call it a bizarre fascination ???? I would probably be twice the player if I gave away my soldering iron and my screwdriver ????. . . I have yet to try an alnico speaker, they're probably too aggressive sounding for my heavily-customized 15-Watt Blackheart Handsome Devil head. BUT now that I also have a warm-sounding '68 Princeton Reverb, maybe it's time to revisit!

  • I have a hesu demon speaker inside my HB tube15 (monoprice) and it's killer for metal even in this fender voiced amp and the effects loop is loud af…
Great with pedals and you need drives with this amp…

  • I liked the stock speaker and the alnico about the same. Didn't like the Cannabis as much as the other two. I would just keep the stock speaker.

  • I was expecting to find out I really wanted to change my speaker, but though I really like the alnico speaker's tone, I didn't necessarily prefer it, particularly knowing now much eq-ing I can do on the amp. I don't care if the knob is at 3 o'clock or dimed out, as long as I'm getting the sound I want. Think I'm pretty content with the stock speaker now. Will likely swap out a tube to get a bit more clean headroom, and considering replacing reverb for a 3 spring, but grateful to hear these differences without having to buy the speaker to do so.

  • Speakers make a larger difference in tone than changing tubes. I still wouldn’t change the speaker if I were a gigging musician because the audience doesn’t care.

  • I definitely did hear a huge difference between the speakers. The stock speaker my least favorite it just didn’t brought enough presence to the guitar in my compared to the more expensive speakers.

WGS Alnico: My second favorite because it sounds much more closer to those studio album records. However I found it a bit too hi-fi sounding for my taste it definitely brought the guitar to life compared to the stock speaker.

Eminence: My favorite hands down. Maybe because it reminded me more of a vintage British amp speaker. I tend to favor it the most I guess is because I’m used to hearing it in my favorite records. It also brought the top end of the guitar a lot more, more presence hard to describe but definitely has a chimey sound to it for sure.

  • I put Celestion Creamback G12H-75, bias new output tubes, put Mullard NOS in V1, Telefunken and another tube at my discretion, installed bias for V1 position and the amp got more treble, three-wire reverb, it now sounds like $1500.

  • Everyone who thought the stock speaker sounded good compared to either the WGS or the Rex needs to upgrade their monitors.

  • overall i think the stock speaker is the best soundign for this amp, a little harsh but better, eminence has to much mids and not enough highs, the wgs is thin.

  • I'm sorry but I can't hear any difference before you tell us to put at new speaker in a a cab . Can I please show a wave form on an OS that proves this, until then as an Ex studio tec most important is what make's you feel more comfortable so you play better . If you want a better tone research . Don't believe this crap. Or just don't buy a budget amp
