  • Thanks for this! From Dan, former employee 1996-2003ish Bay City Music up the road in Tauranga. Watching this from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico as I am about to start running a separate filthy amp for my Cole Clark Angel. Looks like K&K is the go. Thanks a bunch, I owe you a beer or 5.

  • Beautiful video! Thank you for these very relevant tests, because it is very difficult to choose a soundhole mic and this will probably help many hesitant musicians (this is my case)

Your interpretation is splendid, your guitar playing sensitive and clean.

Can you tell me the name of the track you play from 30:18?

Thank you again and long live your YT channel! (from the south of France)

  • Hey. Can we plug-in these pickups into our audio interface and record guitar into Our DAW like FL studio protools ?

  • Wish we could have heard guitar first with no pickups, then Mic, then pickups? Not knowing natural sound of the guitar makes it tough to judge, but my order would be Fish, Mojo, steam then Gloss for natural sound, but maybe the steam improved the sound of the guitar?

  • the Mojotone respects the basic sound of the guitar and with this pickup if you have a quality acoustic guitar you'll never be disappointed. the other 2 pickups certainly have qualities but are much less close to the truth. I play on lowden and martin and since I've had the Mojotone Quietcoil NC-2 I've had the best amplified sound ever on an acoustic guitar.
I've experimented with many solutions on the market, mixing piezzo sound hole mic, mic inside the guitar and sometimes all 3 technologies, but Mojotone is the best for me.

  • im thinking of adding a pickup to my martin ooo 28 ,, my choices i have narrowed down to the K&K double helix and the Fishman rare earth blend,, which would you recommend? mostly home playing or jamming with a few friends,, maybe an open mic

  • I'm using three of the Fishman NEO-D Pickups and get really good results with a little mod: I tape a little metal sheet/coin onto the pickup right underneath the B string – which takes care of the string imbalance issue by weakening the magnetic field from below.

  • Hello, thank you for this video. Because of this review/comparison, I pulled the trigger on the K&K Sounds Double Helix. I am running it directly into my amp and it sounds great. My only issue is general output. DO you have any advise on that front?

  • Which pickup have you found is the least microphonic? Trying to find a pickup that would function well thru a tube amp. I feel like the less microphonic , the better. I use a sunrise right now and I notice it has some microphonic qualities. I can tap the pickup and hear it! I gotta imagine the Double Helix on steam mode would be ideal.

  • The Mojotone had the least nasally mids one often finds in magnetic pickups so i liked it the most. The Fishman really showed its drawbacks. I could work w the K&K given the options.

  • Excellent demo and playing! I agree with your final thoughts. To me the Mojotone had the most overall 'natural' sound of the three and sounded pretty much spot on on all the recordings. The K&K was (is) the most versatile. Some sounds i liked some not so much but given the options it is very tempting to me as i already use the Pure under bridge pickup and various K&K preamps.
Given the passive nature of the pickups one def needs a preamp. So, i am on the fork in the road. K&K w my existing preamps or the new Mojotone which might not as well w the K&K preamps..mmm, any advice?

  • I’ve listened to this so many times just to hear your playing! I’m very interested in the Double Helix and I think your samples have sold me on it. For my style of play, the K&K in Gloss mode is amazing. I also like that it’s passive and relatively easy to add a Pure Mini for a dual source should I choose to do that someday.

  • I liked both the Double Helix and the NC-Passive in your video take. Excellent review that really showcases their tone! Excellent playing too buy the way, For Those Who Wait is easily one of Tommy's most beautiful songs ever! I found the Mojotone to be surprisingly hot or "microphonic" as you said in your video. While the Mojotone does have sound great did you find it overly noisy? I ask because I'm torn between the passive or the NC-2 which actually has a mic built in.

  • Thanks.
I am fishing about for a lite weight sound hole PU.
After installing a SD mag/mike, it is apparent the life is sucked out of the top when unplugged. I was not prepared for this!

  • Another great review. Thank you. A couple of questions. Did you notice any noise with the mojotone? I've been checking that one out in other videos and noticed some buzz, almost a single coil hum. Second question, how would you compare these to the Sunrise and Duncan Magmic in your other review? Is there any great advantage to going passive over active. Thanks again!

  • Beautiful playing, Waylon. The melodic lines in the hybrid mode are enchanting.

  • Great review and playing mate! To me the Mojotone sounds the most natural, but I like the ability to be able to change modes on the K & Ks. You’re right about those extra loud strings using the Fishmans, and the mounting issue sounds like a pain in the ass! They still sound good though.
How do you think the Mojotone would go on a twelve string? How much? ????????
