“ALL HIGH GAIN SOUNDS THE SAME”… (ENGL VS ORANGE)
Guitars of the Day! Busting the myth that all high gain tones sound the same. There’s definitely more compression and it’s all in the same vein, but all of it sounds identical? Definitely not.

Who won?? Who’s next?? YOU DECIDE ????
Engl ????
I wish all high gain sounds the same. It would be much cheaper. What shocks me is my blues buddies act like theres a difference in cleans. My opinion is clean is clean, high gain is variety
I feel the distortion breakup sounds the same..The major tone differences I hear mostly come from cabinet or IR. I noticed this with the Tonex pedal. I feel like I could pick a single amp and scroll through cabs/IR’s for the sound I want. Or I can do the inverse and pick the amp with the eq characteristics I want.
engl sounds more american
Eq in front of the orange and get similar tones without the price tag of engl
Engl gain clarity sounds better.
Holy shit, Engl is filty and tight ????
Tremonti rules
I’m gonna get a lot of hate, but I think Orange amps all sound like crap. I want to like them, but they sound like muffled farts to me.
My goodness that ENGL tone sounds amazing ????????
Love the growl in the orange.
Good choice on the alter bridge riff.
Engl sounded hollow compared to the orange
Orange: sounds muddy, even on a phone with no bass ????
One has more treble than the other on flat eq ????
Bull shit.these sound as shitty as Marshall's. I owned a real one.in 79. To compare this to a ENGL.is ridiculous.
First ones way tinnier. Also a dope guitar always sounds good.
If those sound the same to you then you should make an appt with your doctor to see why your ears aren’t functioning properly.
I can’t decide which one I like more
Orange
Orange!!! So distinctive and full of character
The winner was the Uberschall
I like the Orange much better.
In this muddy, muffled and ultra distorted metal tone without definition even a Marshall Mini Amp and a Boss Metalzone would sound the same…
Orange much better !!!
Orange >>>>>>
Oranges sound so spongy and round. Even chugs sound phat…it just doesn’t cut though a metal mix.
Yes, there is a clear difference, but it is small. Which begs the question, couldn’t you get a bigger and more noticeable tonal shift for cheaper? The cab and speakers are a great place to start, instead of spending thousands to change something a slight EQ could completely nullify.
