“ALL HIGH GAIN SOUNDS THE SAME”… (PEAVEY 6505 VS EVH 5150III)
Guitars of the Day! Busting the myth that all high gain tones sound the same. Specifically, taking a look at two amps with common lineage, the Peavey 6505+ (now the 6505II) vs EVH 5150III Stealth. Two threads in the evolution of Eddie Van Halen’s tone heritage but do they sound identical? Definitely not.

Weird! Feel-wise the EVH is much tighter and smoother, but recorded, almost identical ????
Same IR, no boost, no post-EQ. Settings on each amp are almost exactly the same except gain is dialed further back on the EVH because it has so much gain it’s stupid lol.
Dog, those are almost identical amp circuits.
Shloppy
Ok now think about the tonal difference in the context of a mix, full stop raging metal band. I seriously doubt anyone can tell. Like make a screwdriver ( cocktail)and tell cheap vodka from expensive vodka; ya can’t.
sound identical
Everyone has bionic ears till the blind test drops.
Welp, mostly tightness and other stuff that players are feeling making sense only while playing, because you feel how amp reacting on your own hands….
Theyre the same brand
REVV Generator MKIII
If all high gains sound the same then all cleans sound the same
???????????? Love all the comments from people that "hear" the difference from the same amp played twice! ????????
Neither sound different your tones in the speaker
I dunno man…that one is pretty close
How come he doesnt use his signature guitar anymore? It is that bad
NOPE….MARSHALL EVERY DAY!!!!!
Mostly in the fingers. Same guitarist gonna sound same. Wow shocker
EVH is thicker-sounding
Peavey sounds better. May be bias. Been playing a block letter since 94. But still agree. I do like the Iconic a lot tho. Know it had moxed reviews. I dig it.
Definitely not the case
The stealth has more clarity
evh
Id be happy w either ????
So you're trying to prove that it does?
No they dont. But Peavey amplified dominates
The EVH has a noticeably fuller/better tone! The Peavey sounds dry in comparison.
I like the use of the Pop Evil riff to test them ????????
might be the worst example you could have picked, one is just a revamped more modern version without ediies name
Evh sounds the same but better, like an HD version of the Peavey. Same overall tone and character, just a little more defined and clearer with a bit more body
lol a 10-band can make them identical
Been saying this for years….
The solid state amp might win here. Dime made that sound iconic.
evh s crunch clear
