Universal Audio Dream 65 – Is this the best Fender style amp/cab pedal I’ve ever tried? – IT DRIPS!

Sweetwater sent me all the new UA amp/cab sim pedals to check out, the Ruby and Woodrow are fine, I don’t really connect with those style of of amps in general. BUT OMG THE DREAM 65 IS EVERYTHING IVE EVER WANTED IN A FENDER STYLE AMP PEDAL! These were all loaners but I’m 100% getting one for myself and likely selling off most of my other amp/cab pedals.

I just bought one of these but im not getting drippy spring reverb sound like you are. Any tips?
I think someone should take that wiggle stick away from you. you like a little jack rabbit with that thang. like a 16 yr old boy loosing his virginity. slows down son!….haha.
You can turn a little practice amp into a monster maker with those pedals! Mic it up and stand back.
What is the entire chain? From guitar to output?
If ya wanna hear it through a Bose S1 Pro+ I have a demo: https://youtu.be/B1nnUef-9e8?si=KIoauctJzkwu0K5W
The dream all day. The Ruby… nah
Can you do a video with your pedal board going through the Dream 65…. Im thinking about switching from a Fractal Audio and would love to just run my pedal board through something like that for live shows… Too many buttons to press on the Fractal… Thanks
I got a Dream 65 and I love it… and I've only begun to explore the possibilities. 🙂
I'm curious if you bought one how it's working for you, how you like it, and how you use it in your own music.
Does this sound better than UA computer plugins? They seemed to lavk something for me.
Not sure if this sounds better because of the setup in this vid or it sounds that good on a line out?
pulsing, throbbing… what?
Bought by The Edge for the Sphere shows. Im guessing that if you use in ear monitoring and go straight to pa these are the dream
The Ruby really requires some tweaking – the EQ knobs work in reverse, so dialing them back gives you more clarity and top end.
I have a real 65 (use it with the OX) and I'm not really impressed by the UA 65 tone right into the mixer/audio interface, too thinny/ unorganic…at least in this vid..
maybe the pedal into the front end of a clean tube amp will bring better results…
How's the FX loop? If I can add fuzz in the right PLACE? This would be awesome!!!????
Well heck..
I was watching reverb pedals and bought a True Spring but for $100 more I think I should just get this!
Thank you so much for this video. I actually wanted the Woodrow because I play '60s style soul and wanted something that got me closer to that Steve Cropper/Stax tone. Granted, he used a Harvard, not a Deluxe. But every video I watched on it was guys with strats, or some kind of humbucker pickup equipped guitar, cranking the Woodrow up and complaining about how hard it is to get a sound out of it, and saying how limited it is and none of the videos showed me what I wanted and so I gave up and decided I'd watch a few Dream 65 videos and most likely I'd get that. The first I watched was from Sweetwater, and he played enough clean stuff that I was starting to think "yeah…maybe". Yours was the second one I played and 5 minutes in you sold me. I was down. I mean, I kept watching but after five minutes I opened another tab and dropped that in a cart to buy online. I kept watching more out of curiosity but I was already sold. But then you switched to the Tele (which is what I use mostly) and at 44:02, you did a quick cut in your edit and suddenly you started playing something that sounded like the intro to Sam & Dave's "Soul Man" and for about 15 seconds you played me exactly what I wanted to hear in all those other Woodrow videos. Of course then you went like all the others and kept trying to play with the dirt. But that's cool. That's you. But you did change my mind and now the Dream 65 is something I'll look into buying later. The Woodrow's in the cart and for that I thank you again.
I already have one, but I still love watching this demo.
Came here for the Dream, now dreaming of a Jazzmaster.
The distortion sounds a little bit digital to my ears but the clean tones and spring reverb are absolutely ace
Great video. It’s a lot like Alice In Wonderland—the first half soars, the second half just doesn’t lift off.
I noticed that you misunderstood the tone controls on the Ruby. They cut when turned clockwise. You had all the treble rolled off when you when trying cabs and I could tell it messed with your ears.
I would recut the video and try again on a fresh day with each pedal. In other words, make this a three part series. Even if you don’t spend a lot of time on the others it’s cool because the Dream65 portion was outstanding.
My Ruby arrived today my Dream becomes reality tomorrow and my Woodrow arrives on the 2nd of January 2024… Rock n Roll.
D Tex, couldn't it also be Diaz Tex for Cesar Diaz, SRV's amp tech who modded his Fender amps? I'd guess that over Dumble Tex.
What I'm confused about and no one discusses, is this powered like Blackstars amped series? Can it just be plugged into a cabinet, I'm old school so idk alot about silent stages and everyone has ear monitors in. Anyone, please describe the ways you would use this live. Thanks!
What a great sounding axe!
I just purchased a Ruby 63 on Reverb from a guy named Ryan in San Diego. Was it you?
https://youtu.be/lm3Iv697jxI
Videos like this unfortunately brought me to buying all 3 of these terrible amp sims at once….and then selling quickly before nobody wanted them. Lots missing on them…good sound quality with a crap operating system and no flexibility is not a good product. Notice Ryan doesn’t have them chained together….maybe we should ask UA why?
Better than the Walrus ACS?
Hi, sound is great but how is the dynamic under the fingers ? That's is the big problem without a normal amp unfortunately..
I'm looking for something that can solve the problem without amplifier….
Hello. Excellent demo. What are the outs of the Dream 65 going into? An amp or a PA? What’s your set up??
Not generally a complainer but, fuckin CHEF'S FUCKIN KISS?!?!? YOU USED TO BE COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just picked up one of these because of this review! It takes OD's and distortions like a champ. Even running a Revv G3 into it sounds pretty good. Also running a Line 6 DL4 post pedal sounds great.
Question one year after you initial post: Do you still love it? How do you use it? Live? Into what: amp or direct?
No headphone out kind of kills it for me.
What is the cable called for using headphones on the dream?
May be a dumb question, but do you just plug in a pedal like this to any old amp (I have a spark) just as you would any other pedal, or what do people typically play these amp modelers through?
I hope my comment don’t hurt anyone or cause a problem, I bough this pedal 2 days ago and last night I had a casino gig and I was very happy cuz I wanted to play my analog board amp less :
The clean sounds amazing very good
Regular overdrives like screamers very good but when I used the high gain distortion jhs angry Charlie ect it sounded terreble and skinny and the delays get lost too on leads. Only clean was cool. So I’m disappointed cuz the pedal only works well on clean and by itself . I going to the store give it back no point for me use this , the boss got-1 directly sounds 100 times better . So if you only wanna studio work it should be fine but for live and big analog board it went really bad for me.
I’m having issues getting mine clean…gain almost all the way down and volume literally all the way up. Idk what I’m doing wrong
Sorry if this is a dumb question! Can this power a speaker on it's own?
I know it's handy and I have used it for recording but would rathet lug a Fender pro junior /wah wah/ fuzz pedal around for recording cos it feels right. These gizmos are versatile but sterile in my humble experience. I am from the old school and that is the where my hearing was honed. I want to use a box but they sound like plastic/cardboard toys…sorry make em sound real. Thanks
