John Mayer inspired presets // Line 6 (Helix, Stomp), Fractal (Axe-FX III, FM9), Quad Cortex

Download the MAYER presets here: https://worshiptutorials.com/product/mayer-wt-artist-series-presets/

These presets are designed to replicate John Mayer’s tone. We’ll say it up front: it is nearly impossible to replicate Mayer’s rigs and guitar tones into a single preset (or into multiple presets, even). Over Mayer’s long career, the he has created an enormous amount of tones and textures, and he is well known for using lots of different amps, pedals, and guitars, many of which are extremely rare and sought after.

Furthermore, much of Mayer’s signature tone is his playing, feel, and dynamics. Only John Mayer will sound just like John Mayer, which is important to remember when using these presets. We have done our very best to replicate some of our favorite Mayer tones, but to truly sound like John, you’ll need to play like John, too.

If you’d like the full amp pack and more Sunday morning ready presets based on the amp we use in this preset, you can get that here: https://worshiptutorials.com/product/2-rck-tc-tone-match-gen2-presets-and-captures/

  • hey man, incredible work.. is it possible to bring these 2 RCK TC – TONE MATCH GEN2 PRESETS AND CAPTURES to the Nano Cortex as well?

    Reply
  • Can you please create Amp only/Direct captures for Quad Cortex? It would be really useful for running into a real cab live.

  • I dont understand who buys presets when they are so easy to make yourself and what I have buyed years ago (yes I made this mistake) doesnt sound even a tiny bit the same they sound in demo. There are so many variables that they just cant sound the same.
If you cant make presets there are tons of free presets in Helix Line 6 pages, some are very good presets and you can tweak them for your gear so you get the best presets for free.

  • Wow. Real nice how you explained the chain build, and being enthousiastic and have fun in playing, not to nail it 100%. I really appreciate your approach and overall tone.

  • I was about to buy this and then saw it wasn't available on the PodGO. Can't remember the last time I was this heart broken. It sounds sooo good!

  • What is the clean patch that you referenced on your website that is a basic clean sound? I have a pod go and would like something similar. As a sidenote, I used your tone match patch of the two rock amp along with my Greer light speed overdrive pedal, set low on the overdrive yesterday at church. It sounded great with my PRS SE DGT !

  • Kinda obvious, but I think it’s important to note that you should play a strat style guitar when using these style presets lol. There’s countless presets like this on the market and unless you play that style guitar, it just doesn’t sound right.

Given that this is a p&w channel primarily, and most of us aren’t typically playing a strat style on a Sunday morning, using your Gretsch paired with this patch isn’t gonna make you sound like Mayer. Sure it gets you in that territory, but the style of guitar itself is 80% of the tone. Mayer’s core tone isn’t really that complex in terms of effects, but it’s Mayer himself who makes it sing as Bradford points out.

  • Your comment about just feeling it and playing with his songs and not having to match them… you just described the blues genre. THAT is why I have struggled with Christian guitar for so long. People are constantly asking what pedal or what guitar or amp they need for a song on Sunday. Or they say they cannot play that song because they have single coil or humbuckers. I say get a guitar that has strings and that you can feel. I’m desperate for a Christian music movement that is the lyrics and intent we know but the musical freedom to feel what God has anointed in the player not in the replication. I like playing the old blue book songs more because they’re more country or blues where people play how they want not exactly how the original was made. Thanks for continuing to mix good music with Christian even if it’s not originating from Christian. Notes are all a joyful noise.

  • Fractal owner here. Am I correct to other ears out there that Helix sounds the best and, somehow, Quad Cortex seems like it might be the most fun to play? The Fractal tone sounded a bit "grainy" to my ear…

  • What does John Mayer have to do with Worship music. We play to glorify God. Let’s not forget that.

  • Sounds awesome!! I wonder if you could do this for ToneX, minus the FX – for the amp/drive sounds.

  • This sounds awesome! Any chance the Pod Go owners could get a cut down version of this patch? Maybe just to get the trio/where the light is sound would be nice ????

  • I’ve been playing these type Strat tones in all the p&g songs that don’t have them lol. I get the typical “that doesn’t fit here” comments lol ????

  • Suggestions for something using Tonex? It’ll probably be easier once the new upgrade launches, but what captures should I be using?

  • Sounds incredible!! Amazing work!! Was looking forward to this one!

You sounded a little out of breath a few times. lol. All the excitement for the patch. lol

  • OMG OMG ????
I’m gonna stay up all night refreshing the WT website so I can buy & download the patch ASAP

  • Am I the only one who absolutely dislikes the John Mayer sound and music overall? Woof

  • Please build a Regge patch too, I sometimes play it but can't find a patch anywhere

  • I haven't seen the team do much with the tone master pro.. my intuition says they have some foreknowledge of line 6s next big move. Love the helix thing but I feel like yall could make a big impact in the tonemaster space, which is currently pretty vacant. Great tones on this vid though!

  • I’m sorry guys but not even close!!! I wasn’t expecting nothing crazy with helix but with fractal and tonex?? big disappointment!!!

  • Don’t trust myself is my favorite, here I thought no one payed attention to it. Your tone on it is on point

  • That sounds amazing! I have a Line 6 spider V 240HC, anyone know how I can get close to this sound on my rig? ????????

  • Great playing! I was hoping for something a lot more unique in the tonal department, but I suppose it's a pretty decent imitation (if you can play like the guy).

  • oh baby…been waiting for this one for LOOOOOOONG time….and it does NOT disappoint ! Thanks! EXCELLENT playing
