I absolutely love this guys style of playing.
He uses the most simplest and direct of approaches, but in the most beautifully intelligent ways. He also plays exactly however he wishes or feels how to play rather than the anal "what teacher taught" stuff.
And he seems to really understand bass's background in double bass (contrabass) feel as i find almost all of his stuff translates really comfortably on my double bass
dang that snare sound xD
Having the pleasure of playing with Rick when we were with The Danko/Butterfield Band in the late 70’s and early 80’s. We had the greatest time together, and his playing is unlike any other bass player I’ve ever played with, or heard before. What a beautiful friend he was as well. I’m honored to have had such an opportunity!!!
Just listen to the bass in the Band. Rick's bass is just right at all times.
The root seed that gave birth to john mayer..
Those ARE chords!!!!!! Aha!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, man!
We need more of this footage!
He seems like such a cool, nice guy
The 3 seconds sounds like when you picked up your bass after drinking half a handle of Canadian club.
My first bass instructional video on VHS from homespun tapes. Rick is a legend! May he rest in peace
when he's playing The Weight you can really hear the machine that turned the engine that propelled the music of The Band. between that bass work and Levon on drums, you might have the most underrated rhythm section in history
Mum calls from upstairs: Ricky, time for dinner!
Go Ricky!! ????????
God Bless Him!
What a talented guy he was!!!
His fingers looks gross, like he ate a bucket of KFC without washing his hands.
that shirt
One of the best. Look at that beautiful fretless
My algorithm is heavy with Danko right now. Thanks YOUTUBE
Simply the greatest to do it
love the sound of the ampeg bass !
I figured this would be by bass player talking about his techniques, but I am amazed to see that it is HIM! Of course I knew about Dylan growing up, but he didn’t really know about ‘The Band’ until I bought a home in Somers Point New Jersey. I learned that the band had played at Tony Marts in the summer of 64. Amazing time, I was just a kid. But what history! I have since learned that Rich Danko was actually a very good musician before he joined the band. He just wanted to play with these guys, and he certainly did! Apparently these guys never made the money that they should have. Except maybe for Robbie Robertson. Great stuff here! RIP Rick.
So glad I got to know him growing up before he had passed. Taught me so much! 🙂
priceless material right here
rick was having a boring day
Is he wearing false nails?
Rick Danko. Legend. Coolest fellow who ever lived.
Why does this man look like he got a fresh manicure before this? pure Danko goodness, what a pleasure seeing him teach us this iconic song
I'm fascinated by this.
Nice
