Stadium Tones at Whisper Volume And Beyond – AMS DBA 50

In today’s video, Paul from The Studio Rats is checking out the incredible DBA 50 from AMS Amplifiers. The DBA 50 is a 50 watt 2 channel am, one side being like a plexi the other channel being like a Marshall JCM 800.
What makes this guitar amp a complete game changer is that you can run these amps at whisper quiet bedroom levels and get FULLY CRANKED Marshall tones.

Here is what AMS Aplifiers say about the DBA 50
This amplifier is a concentrate of British spirit with AmS sauce. It brings together two legendary amps, the Plexi and the JCM 800, without of course falling into a carbon copy. We keep the spirit by adding a touch of modernity.

  • Cool amp. Here is what you need to do. Try a Friedman smallbox 50 and Freidman JEL 50. The smallbox is plexi heaven on ch1 and BE on CH2. This was my favorite amp until the jel came out. Im not a huge fan of the BE sound.

The JEL50 is however that same heavenly plexi sound paired with an outstanding 800 /modded 800 sound. The two channels are perfectly matched with one of the the best master volumes in the game.

  • Thanks Paul; interesting. Have AmS integrated a reactive load circuit much like Revv do with their D20? Just curious to know the alchemy these genius designers used to deliver that amazing tone. Appreciate you; Rats Rock!

  • That’s one of the most interesting amps I’ve seen in a while. I Would love to see inside the chassis. Great demoing!

  • What's that guitar you're using in the booth, please?
(also I own an AMS amplifier and it's the best I ever had!)

  • Dampeners are nice too. I can put my 100W Orange to max and keep it to my room. It does miss the ‘air’ but the tubes are humming

  • Sounds nice, I would fancy a smaller one, would the “little legend” 20w version have similar benefits (just plexi channel) ?

  • Sounds awesome and I really appreciate an amp with a good master volume. Pretty much sold off my amps that couldn't do reasonable house volumes without an attenuator. I also bought a clear sonic shield to sit in front of one of my amps and it really helps with the beaming and perceived volume. On top of room treatment for reflections, I'd recommend those too

  • They have a store link on the Valve Storm site. I read about their builds and have been curious since.

  • So channel 1 is like…a…Marshall Vintage Modern?
    Amazing amp, for sure.
    Didn't know about this amps.
    Great video.
    Thank you for sharing.

  • Really interesting. That’s very much Paul.
I’ve wanted a solution like this for ever.

  • Beautiful amp! But… as many of us tube amp aficionados own some kind of high-end attenuator/loadbox type of gizmo (Waza TAE, Fryette PS,…), getting a massive amp tone from our 50-100 watters at whisper levels isn’t really an issue anymore, is it? Still, beautiful amp. As for the comments on the price: I think it’s really competitively priced at €2600 – well below what a comparable Friedman or Suhr would set you back. Oh forgot to mention: incredible playing, Paul ????
