Yes 、do the old stuff ❤❤❤
It's not just the music. Having been in rock bands and recorded for decades, I appreciate their playing styles; prolific writing of smart, cleaver music; work ethic; and individual character for staying true and not getting into trouble or infighting. All top (and rare) qualities for a band, in my book.
After first hearing the Maids in 2014, and then meeting them and experiencing their live shows, supporting the Maids is a passion and a privilege to give back anything I can for what they've given me. Thx, NittPicc! ????????
The only one who can drink MISA under the table is Miku. That seems impossible, since Miku is the shortest and MISA is the tallest. But you have to remember The Girls have always said that Miku is really a Middle Aged Man at heart. She goes to play the Horses and eat dried salmon flakes. So she's a Ji Ji playing the Gee-Gees. She also came in 2nd place in a Celebrity Japanese Texas Hold 'Em Tournament. She hopes to own her own Race Horse someday. I hope she names him Po.
Such a Banger!!! Who else would like to see Band-Maid do a short tour of B-Side songs. We'll call it "The B-Side Tour", and they record it of course for an exclusive DVR……oh be still my heart!
Well I'll be damned……"teenagery" is actually a word…..LOL! Thought it was a NittPiccism.
Emphatic YES to "Maid in Japan" You'll LOVE that one, it's Quintessential Band-Maid without a doubt.
You can be sure that if Kanami was going to improv something that she would practice it over and over so she would do her best at it. (Hahahahaa)
Hola NittPicc. If your lounge jacket had been red, I would have thought you wanted to give us gifts. Ho, Ho, Ho! But I consider Unfair Game to be one. I love this banger like crazy. Misa with her bass plays an unfair game. And Mincho's solo accompanied by Akane's fierce drums is one of the most chaotic she has composed. Awesome. THANKS
Unfair Game and Matchless Gum are absolute bangers.
So Matchless Gum coming soon?! It's one of my favorites songs and very underrated.
????????
Id love to see you check out the Maid in Japan album. There's alot of good stuff there.
I have been a BM fans since the release of Real existence MV back in 2015, The first TRUE BM song Alone is great but they weren't my absolute favourite band until the album Just bring it released back in 2017 as most of the songs are written by the maids. It's the first album that can truly demonstrates their raw talents and unique style, songs like puzzle, Secret My Lips and Awkward are still some of my top BM songs now. Since you've reacted to Alone already, maybe you can start with songs in Just bring it first.
Still looking forward to your the unseen world instrumental reaction though.
I miss the patterned stockings too
I admit that I have pretty much every CD the Maids ever made, I have yet to hear every track. Thanks for catching some of the ones I missed!
It's funny how Miku was the 1st to get a signature guitar, Zemaitis Flappy Pigeon, then Misa got her signature Black Smoker about the same time Akane got her signature Wincent Drumsticks only to the most deserving person from Japan getting a signature PRS from the man himself Paul Reed Smith in front of all the other Maids! It was very emotional.
This is the rare time with BM where the single is better than the B-sides IMO
"Maid in Japan" is a very good album. The music was written by Masahiko Fukui and Kentarō Akutsu. And I think next "New Beginning" is the best album in the history of BAND-MAID. There are 9 songs and 8 music authors. I won't list them.
'Old Maid' is always good to explore. I felt Saiki's voice back then sounded more husky, probably pre-surgery. Some of my favorites songs in that era would be Secret My Lips and Clang. Nice coat by the way. Now you need mittens.
Love me some "Maid in Japan."
Misa said she did cut back on the drinking, but even this year, she still had both a can of Asahi Super Dry and a small bottle of Jim Beam on her amp. A couple weeks ago at Zepp Haneda, she threw her half drunken bottle of Beam into the crowd. Signed it as well.
i listen to this song almost every day…
If you go back to Maid in Japan, they played the song Forward at their concert at Yokohama Arena last year, not sure if you can get a video of that. Miku did a solo version of the song Big Dad in a concert this year. Again, unsure if you can get a video of that. My favorite songs from the album are Forward, Bye My Tears, Key, and Be Okay.
I always get a Tool vibe from this, in a good way.
It was a nice chilly 25c this morning. Had to put on my sweater. Hehehe 25C is chilly in Barbados
I hope you check out the remake of Dawn Winery. A good instrumental.
Rememeber, if someone reacts to Unfair Game, immediate like for this is my favourite song, which is rarely reacted. Such a shame! Anemone, Clang and Unfair game my all time favourites!
I saw them four times last year. MISA never once touched the whiskey she had onstage. She had a can or two of beer during the shows – she really has cut down. Except for when I saw them in Otaru, it was MISA's birthday and they all drank champagne onstage. (And I witnessed MISA's Magic Time! – She took over from Miku, she was so shy and heartbreakingly cute)! Miku is the biggest drinker in the band, apparently!
"Unfair Game" is an awesome track, very underrated in my opinion!
Cough… new Hanabie song…Ito okashi My Type… Cough… It's pretty special… Hint Hint…????????
The YOLO single was their first self-written and composed "mini-album" and it shows… there's so much fierceness in all three songs, it's like releasing a caged beast. It also serves as a time capsule of their brief "grungy alt-rock" era, sounds very early-mid 2000's Incubus and similar bands
As for Maid in Japan, well, it will be really funny to see your reactions to those songs… they sound NOTHING like the current Band-Maid lol. But i dig that mini-album, it was a humble beginning for a great band, plus some fun and upbeat japanese pop-rock is never a bad treat
Thankfully they played this on the US tour and we can thank Pat McKee for getting us this great fan cam footage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt9C0EaEtQk
That interval you mentioned is the 5 of the chord followed by the 2. (so an interval of a fourth) It sounds edgy because of the 2 I think, because your ears want to resolve it down to the root but it ain't gonna.
Magical solo from Kanami ????❤️
Go back to the beginning. Just be careful of copyright strikes. Their old label can be kinda bitchy. But along with the album you have to do the singles that they put out with extra songs. Some of the singles are some of the best songs, like Choose me was a backup single and it is one of my favorites. Don't skip the EPs. Good luck. I have the Miku tongue version of Conquer. She's my dream love. ❤
"Old" Maid is great! I find "Maid in Japan" is an interesting album, to me it sounds very late 90's. I've often wondered if they hadn't used "Thrill" as their first single… was there a song off of MIJ that would have been equal to Thrill and was able to kick start the groups popularity. "Be OK", "Key" and "Forward" are outstanding tracks…. Forward was the only song off of MIJ that they played at their big okyu-ji at Yokohama Arena, though I believe it was changed up alittle. I have the remastered/re-released version of MIJ which includes "Matador of Love and Passion" which was originally set to be their first release, but Maids chose Thrill instead. It's very unique, Kanami pulls out her inner Santana… great song but I feel that if they had used it for their first release it would have been their last. From what I've noticed in my 2 years as a Maidiac, MIJ is probably least fav among the fandom, but I find it a great listen… even Miku's song "Big Dad". It was a super deep cut that she did back in August, performed by herself with her acoustic guitar, first time since 2015. It's an interesting debut album, whereas most band's debuts were years in the making, not this one. Can't wait for your reactions. Also, as one who's lived through many Wisconsin winters, what do you consider as cold down there in Texas? ????????
Maid in Japan was a mini-album (8 songs) released on January 8, 2014. It was recorded in 2013 when the band was very new. It didn't do well enough to chart on the Oricon charts. It was re-released in 2018 with "Ai to Jōnetsu no Matador" and "Summer Drive" from their 1st single Ai to Jōnetsu no Matador. The other song on the 3 song single was "Thrill". The re-release did make it to 26 on the Oricon charts. The 1st cover was of the 5 in their early maid costumes (with Misa wearing the "tiny hat"). The re-release has an embossed, all-white cover and a bit hard to read. For years they never played any songs from it but for the on-line Christmas acoustic concert and the Yokohama Arena concert they brought back "Forward" from MiJ. All the songs and most of the lyrics are by Kentarō Akutsu. In 2019 he wrote the music for "Smile" with lyrics by Kobato, for the B-side of the single Bubble. MiJ is a fun album well worth a listen. It is pop-rock/pop-punk, not as technical but still well played and catchy. I don't think they have a bad song, even the ones written by others. This was before Miku learned the guitar so there is more of her doing lead vocals or duets with Saiki. I think they plan to or have re-visited some of the other songs in their more recent Japan concerts, maybe somebody else knows for sure. It is available on Spotify but not Apple Music.
Matchless song IMO — Band-Maid flexing their B-side muscles!
Start from the beginning!?! – that's a yes from me (do 2 or 3 at a time). May be interested that despite my previous ramblings on Backing tracks, electronics etc, on K-RossReacts chronological ranking "Arcadia Girl" is my #1 24 songs in (and may be there for a couple of weeks yet)
Maid in Japan is a trip. It's not just early Band-Maid, it's pre-Thrill Band-Maid. A B-side from it – "Matador of Love and Passion" (wtf lol) – might be my fave of that early batch of songs, Kanami really leans into her love of Santana on that one.
Maid in Japan is their first album and it was from before their hard rock turn with Thrill, so it's more of a pop punk/pop rock/power pop kind of thing. A lot of the features we expect from Band-Maid songs (prominent+ complex bass and drums, second verse changes, etc) are missing or dialed way back, but you can still hear hints of what they would develop into (and it's still a decent album, if you put it up against other 2000s pop punk). One interesting feature from their early days is more Miku vocals.
Fan opinions are mixed on the album. Some find it boring and dismissable. Others appreciate the view into their earliest days as a band, and still others find it a fun album that stands on its own even if it's their least advanced work. As a musician and a fan, you should definitely check it out; why would you not?
Also according to the Band Kobato is the one that can drink everyone else under the table lol.
Top notch reaction to one of Band Maid’s coolest songs & a fun picture collage from P in D! Maid In Japan has some great tracks. “KEY” and “FORWARD” stand out as really fun songs. Stay warm!
#4 on my BM top 20. What I call “the Yolo bracket” starting with the single and ending with Yolo on Just Bring it is a grouping of exemplary tracks with a similar Dark energy they have never really revisited.
Surprisingly, according to the ladies themselves, Miku is the one with the most drinking stamina! Kanami comes in last, always the first to have to bow out of festivities. They said Miku is the one that goes around finishing everyone’s drinks! Party Po!????????????????????
Misa had a beer and flask of something at the show I went to last year——please check out-YOU—GLORY—
Luv the cozy vibes. ????
P&D out there helping spread the good word. ????
Kanami's longest solo (not counting instrumentals), & probably her best to date! Very impressive composition considering it's one of her first recorded for the band. ????????????????????
Looking cute, Nitt! I think a complete discography track-by-track would be awesome! Akane couldn't do double-bass pedal playing when they started, but by this EP, she could….just choosing not to do it much here to help punctuate things more cleanly, I think. It's that sort of song. The Maids are great that way… sure Kanami is great at tapping, but does every song have tapping? No, only what is best for the composition in question. Same with Misa slapping (or, yes, tapping, and she's one of very few bass players who do that), or Saiki doing her falsetto, or Miku screaming, or trilling, etc, etc.
Both Matchless Gum and Unfair Game have such a grungy rock vibe that they carried into the Just Bring It album, which was released just a couple of months later in January 2017.
Gotta love the darker grunge band maid with the lighter angelic side ????????????????????????
