Orange Terror Bass 500 Demo
The Terror Bass is back and it sounds better than ever. With a valve preamp and a 500W Class D solid state power amp, the all-new Terror Bass sounds closer to Orange’s flagship AD200 than ever before.
Though the circuit is completely new, the Terror Bass retains the control layout from the original amp, with the addition of a Clean switch. This reduces gain and smoothes the top-end, giving this super-simple amp an even greater range of tones than its predecessor. From clean Pop sounds through to gritty Rock crunch, the Terror Bass can do it all.
There’s also a -6dB pad switch, meaning active and passive instruments are equally well catered for.
The Terror bass uses a lightweight and efficient Class D power amp, with 500 watts of power into 4 Ohms and 250 Watts into 8 Ohms. Coupled with the Balanced XLR output and valve-driven FX Loop, the Terror bass is perfect for any situation, whether it’s the studio, rehearsal or a life on the road.

Orange cabinets have been an industry standard for fifty years, the OBC112 cabinet is Orange’s newest addition to the range.
With rear porting and featuring a 400 Watt Lavoce Neodymium 12″ bass speaker, the OBC112 produces a surprising amount of bottom end despite its modest size.
Built from 15mm Birch ply, the OBC112 is light enough to be truly portable. The classic Orange picture frame design and our iconic livery are your guarantees of solid craftsmanship and build quality.

I have the first terror bass 500. Cracking lovely warm sound. Suits my needs perfectly. Im looking for a backup amp… might grab this new version ???????? or maybe another hybrid amp.
Excellent review. I agree with what you said about the gain stage. I prefer the overdrive on the OB-1 series. ????
The original Terror was better in the sense that it more powerful. It was 500 into and 8 or 4 ohm. load. By the way, you like most other reviewers don't get the passive tone stack.
Great vid. Sold!
Hmmmm this or the OB1-500…
Why do you need to DI and Mic up the rig? There are those of us who would like to hear how it sounds without the processing
I’ve had mine for a few years. Started using it as I was looking for reliable, lil dirty sound I was not getting from some larger Gk’s after 20 years. I have paired it separately at times with a vintage Marshall bass cab, mark bass traveler and ampeg 2-10, horn and 12 sub, playing in hard rock band and it is plenty loud in bar/club venues. Great sound and versatility. Highly recommend it.
I appreciate the honesty on your channel. It can be difficult to make an informed decision if the host just raves about every piece of equipment being demoed.
After watching, I actually ask myself if it’s the right sound for me instead of thinking I have to have one.
An excellent channel
The drive of this amp doesn’t work well for crunchy heavy tones, but it takes drive pedals really well and also sounds amazing standalone with a P-Bass and flats for Motown/blues/etc.
I currently run a 1968 kustom amp and head, Absolutely love them both. I was looking for something more high end I can work towards would this amp be a good investment?
Nice track y'all made! ????
I can just listen to the playing and know it’s Josh.
sounds killer
why is there never any good bass players doing the tone reviews? trying to listen to the tone but all the sloppy playing puts me off so bad :/
can the terror bass run without a speaker load? i want to know if i can use it as a speakerless DI for small gigs because it sounds so damn good.
Awesome bass head. m/ both the clean and distortion tones sounds pretty cool. I especially like how it sounds with a chorus pedal. Plus that white elephant tune sounds awesome. Sounds like there’s some Black Sabbath influences in that song. Other than that, great demo on the bass head.
You should make another Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 video! It would be a lot better if you do it in your new format. Before, you never used to give much information beyond what ads say about a product, but now, you actually give opinions and do much more helpful demonstrations. That's why I think that the Tone Hammer 500 deserves a new demo from you guys!
The bass butler is so fucking great… but this was not as cool. White Elephant is badass tho!
amp sounds great… better without the pedals IMHO.
i want one of these bad boys but i’m such a poor mf
Thank you for doing a review that wasn’t mostly slapping. The majority of review videos are usually very slap heavy. It sounds cool, but I feel that most musical situations I’m in don’t call for it.
Nice Dingwall
What's the point of slap??? Tune that fucker down, roll off the tone, smoke a bowl and play it slow.
Hate this type of reviews. You tried to show some versatility (I get it) but c'mon, all I wanted to know was if this amp can push you against the wall… Not impressed
Cheers
Has this amp been rereleased, or is this just a new video review? Thought I played this in a store last year, but didn’t find anything online on different versions.
When it comes to lack of volume, here's my Pro Tip:
Don't use an Orange OBC 115". Go for a cab with more efficiency.
I had the luck to check out the Bass Terror 500 with an old, sealed 410" @ 8 Ohm, equipped with Celestion 10g50, built in the end of the 1980's. The amp was loud enough to help me cut through two heavy metal guitarists with 100 Watt Engl heads and a 412" plus a hard hitting drummer. The amp didn't even start sweating.
I would like to hear the Amp at my Tecamp L 810 @ 4 Ohm, or my L 215 @ 8 Ohm. But for me volume comes
1. From cone Surface
2. From the efficiency of the speakers.
Those OBC 115" cabs are known not to be the loudest cabs on the market. Use two of 'em, stack 'em to get at least one of 'em nearer to your ear. Then try again.
These are sick.
terror bass + pro series warwick + OBC410 + sansamp + diamond bass comp = perfection
I leave mids cranked and a good amount of treble, shit cuts through like nothing else.
That song was Fucking AMAZING, thank you for turning me on to it. I don’t know if it was just perfect for the moment, but looks like I need to dig deeper into White Elephant. Cheers
My wife, charlie my german shepard, my stingray, and ……my terror
F yeh I’ll stay to the end. I get so happy shying see a new video.
That said……
Orange isn’t going to be happy till they have ALL of my money, you’re getting greedy Orange!!!
I’m more into a cleaner bass sound these days; the Orange would be useful for what I am currently doing.
Ive had this amp for a week now. I cant get any dirty grit from it.
@ThebassChannel… how does the dirt and clean compare to the newest Darkglass 900 offerings? The question most of us have.
Very cool Demo! I have the Orange Terror Bass Combo. I like it. Hidden 2×12, looks like a 1×12. It doesn't have the new features, but who cares. its pretty damn light and was only $500 for it. You can't get a better Tube amp for that price. It sounds killer too!
Is the Warwick giveaway still a thing?
Enjoy your vids. Stay healthy and keep the good content please
The terror bass is very loud. Perfect for gigging. Dunno what you was on about there
Nice band bro
That band white elephant, where can I listen to their albums??? They sound quite good!
Now if only bands would write music in the register,
Metal is guilty of this…….
Never mind the Terror Bass… that White Elephant song is a real gem! 🙂
4:25 is wake of hillsong ?
Glad I'm not the only one. I've never been really impressed by Orange's bass stuff. No matter what I did with my OB1-500, it was a bland, uninspiring tone, but unlike with you and the Terror Bass, this was especially true for the cleans.
Can you do the ashdown abm evo please ?
