Squier Paranormal Rascal Review – The best Gibson bass you can buy

Hail traveler! Have you seen beyond the mountains? There be rumors of dragons in this land. I don’t much believe in what I haven’t seen, but I always try to ask when fellows like yourself breeze through town. Your type seems to have plenty of stories to tell. So, please, let me buy you a round and you can tell me about them dragons.

  • I bought a pink one, as well. For the price, it's unbelievable how Just Right this bass feels. And, like your demo, I'm using the bridge pickup … something I rarely do with a Fender. Thanks for your great review ????

  • The Rascall notes sound more round played back to back with the Thunderbird, makes the Tb sound muddy.

  • I'm sure this Chinese-made Squier has way, way better QC than any Gibson out of Nashville these days.

  • I recently got one of these in the green finish, really happy with the quality and think its an awesome bass! My one only gripe is that its a smidge dark sounding, particularly when running DI straight from my pedalboard.

I'm gonna upgrade the electronics to some full size, 500k pots and hopefully thatll clear it up a little ????

  • Sweetwater just had these go on sale for $349 I had a 10% discount so I ended up paying $314. Mine is the Sherwood green which is an absolutely beautiful color. I had no issues at all with mine that played perfectly right out of the box I just had to do a couple minor adjustments it was good to go. It is a cool sounding bass guitar. It's not really Fendery and it's not really like a Gibby it has it's own personality which is a good one.

  • Definitely a really cool bass and you did a great job hitting the highlights on the different tones. The ergonomics with having the right hand scrunched up forward are a deal breaker for me, sadly. Glad it works for you though!

  • This is the best short scale bass on the market. I say this without pause. Fender flat out made a classic bass with this Squire. They can just keep putting out new color variations and maybe even do a Fender CuNiFe version of it. But it's awesome. Bought it as soon as it came out (I have it in green).

  • Yup: the bridge pick-up is killer, absolutely non-traditional Fender. This is a LONG bass -the short scale for players who don't want to be seen playing a short scale(!) I am an old fart traditional player and I am digging this big-time; can't wait to play this with my blues rock guitar friend. This is now being offered with a red finish on the Fender/Squire site. BTW: thank you for playing classic licks for tone reference.

  • Hey man thanks for your review and I thought it was well done and worthwhile. Good comparison to Gibson. I will be on the lookout for you in the future.????✌️????

  • I would say that the Rascal sounds much better than the Thunderbird, the T-Bird sounded to me quite nasal in comparison, while the Rascal has the old "mudbucker" sound, not unlike the 70's Tele basses, the Gibson EB-0/1/3s or the 70's Guild basses with the "sludgebucker" pickups. I usually tend to like more that kind of sound than the typical thin, nasal sound of more modern basses or even the classic P-Bass kind of sound, that's why i have an older Squier VM Precision TB, that is basically a 70's Telecaster bass reissue and i love it, with flatwounds or tapewounds, it sounds very upright-like. So i guess that this one would sound very similar with that kind of strings.

  • Lol I'm literally watching this video to try to decide whether or not I should trade my Thunderbird in for one of these

  • I love your channel man. I just bought this bass cuz I watch the lobster and bully the kid now you … I have 5 basses but I had to buy this one! God knows when fender will stop making these, they could even go up on price. I checked a few stores and they are all sold out! I had to order online, let’s hope it will arrive soon now!

  • Thank you for playing bass lines instead of sounding like a guitar player forced to review a bass. Now I've gotta get one of these………

  • I bought the shell pink and it arrived today.
Almost perfectly in tune out of the box. Setup is decent too.
Great bass for my stumpy little guitarists fingers.
The tones are excellent and no hum from the neighbours airconditioner.
