“The year 2024 has seen its fair share of disappointing releases in the rock and metal genres, with albums like Falling In Reverse’s Popular Monster and HARDY’s Quit!! topping the lists of worst albums. Popular Monster, despite its initial hype, has been criticized for its lack of cohesion and overblown production, with many reviewers labeling it as an embarrassment that fails to deliver on its ambitious blend of metal, hip-hop, and pop elements. Critics have pointed out that frontman Ronnie Radke’s vocal performance has become increasingly grating, overshadowing the album’s potential with cringe-worthy lyrics and a forced emotional narrative. Similarly, HARDY’s Quit!! has been dismissed as a hollow attempt at merging country and rock influences, lacking the authenticity and grit that fans expect from the genre. With both albums receiving scathing reviews for their creative shortcomings and uninspired songwriting, they serve as cautionary tales for listeners navigating the 2024 music landscape.” (Perplexity)

Your a hack¥
Damn man I had a lot of fun with A Whole New Sound especially the Yellowcard cover. That attack was just uncalled for.
Rather listen to Wage War over Skillet or the New Motley Crue
Hardy and Fred Durst on the same song? I am so glad I missed that one! Haha
Ronnie Radke is just emo Ivan Moody
I would sacrifice Ronnie Radke to bring back Chester Benington back.
I can defend very band on this list except Hardy. It sounds like someone out a recording booth in a meth lab. Sheesh
I know it’s late, but might as well give my two cents where I can.
I already said my piece on popular monster a number of times. Even if there are worse sounding albums out there, even if it does have some decent qualities (I don’t even mind the breakdowns sounding similar…I’m a sucker for them. Idc), I still believe it deserves the top spot for what it represents and how successful it is.
I will say I am kind of surprised to see Six Feet Under’s Killing for revenge on here, not because I like the album (I haven’t even listened to it in full), but because this album was honestly an improvement from their previous record from 2020 “Nightmares of the decomposed” which was an absolute trainwreck. I almost wonder where you’d rank that album on your worst list if you went back and listened to it…but that would require you to listen to NOTD which is the last thing you should do (Seriously, Chris Barnes’s vocals are a whole lot worse on that album, especially with the trademark EEEEE’s that he’s become infamous for, which are mercifully absent from KFR). Also surprised yet unsurprised to see Trapt on here after last time they released something, you brushed it off with a “what’s a Trapt?”
I did expect Hardy to take the #1 spot and I wasn’t disappointed. I didn’t even bother listening to anything else from him after hearing “Rockstar”. There is something clearly wrong when even Nickelback can outdo you on your own song.
And Motley Crue can piss off to a retirement home. The title track alone deserves to burn in a massive fire for reasons that the metal meltdown has described better than I can.
Skillet's release was solid. Sad that you blow it off because of your anti-Christian bias. No surprise that you give no mention to Stryper who put out one of their best in their long career.
Wage War – can't believe this band once release "Alive" and "The River".
I can happily say I've never listened to any of these bands. And breakdowns have become so over done, lazy, and lame that they all sound recycled now.
(dis)honorable mention: KMFDM's Let Go.
Is it me or have these guys kind of "lost the plot" since Paradise?
To be completely honest I didn’t even know trapt still made music i thought they faded into obscurity after headstrong
You definitely missed the new Machine Gun Kelly album
Watch The World Burn is a guilty pleasure for me, even though my tastes don't align at all with FIR. I like me angst but not this.
In speaking of Six Feet Under, how did "Nightmares of the Decomposed" not make the 2020 list?
TBH, I like Ronald from popular monster cuz of Alex Terrible
Others are not my type but I don't hate
I don't get the hate, not much of a fan
Let me know what's the controversy
Wanted to add some words about Killing for Revenge. While music sounds pretty standard and uninspired even for pretty much traditional/melodic death metal these days, I think the album is produced better at least than the previous album, and the vocals definitely sound better than on the previous album and maybe some albums before. This is not the reason anybody should listen to or moreover buy this album, but still it is an improvement over some thing SFU were doing last years
Dudes got a hard on for the radke hate
Odd calling someone a crybaby as you cry about their success and make sweeping generalizations about their fan base. I don't really listen to Falling In Reverse much, but I listened to the album and thought it was solid (the breakdown critique is warranted). I also don't see what Ronnie's TikTok and Kik streaming has to do with the album. This seems personal or like you're trying to pander to certain people.
Presbyterian churches aren't all that prevalent in the south. That's more of a midwest thing. Cooper has criticized a lot of the new wave of progressive Christianity and the Presbyterians are one of the biggest supporters of it.
Just say you don't care for Christian music and move on.
There were some gems on Stigma, ngl.
I didnt think "Quit!!" was that bad, i remember hardy getting shit on for his last record but i kinda like that one too, his albums have helped me appreciate modern country music, maybe i have bad taste in music ????
You lost me at Falling In Reverse. I love them
Didnt think you were gonna add trapt….. I forgot they were a thing
Goddamn. Falling in reverse is terrible
Heavys suck ????
Critics are critics because they’re not good enough to be on stage theirselves. Psycho is a great song. I’m not a fan of country, so his other stuff does nothing for me
Six feet under hasn’t been good in years
Ronald McDonald is a twat, not arguing that fact. But I didn’t completely hate the popular monster album, stand out being “Ronald”. I’m definitely not listening to it for radke though, the song was definitely being carried by tech nine and Alex terrible
Bit rough when the best part of your album is your guest vocalists ????
Okay. I'm about to sound like an asshole. Apologies in advance.
But LOOK. I'm sorry if you think he's a fucking crybaby, but Ronnie Radke is a legend. If you can't appreciate a triple Platinum piece of art, that is your problem.
Okay, he can be an ass online, but cut them man a damn break. Too many people hate this band.
As someone who is NOT a thirteen year old edgelord, this album is the only thing that got me through the year. I was one of the first people to see it live, and it was fucking amazing. FIR fans are the best fan base in the world, and Ronnie deserves every award, sold out arena, and dime of support he gets.
If you honestly think he's a crybaby, I'm sorry but you can go ahead and shoves your opinions up your ass. There. I said it.
I lost you at Revolution. I never really understand why people hate the album so much, i LOVE IT. I’ve never really seen someone give an actual reason why they don’t like it.
I could of sworn popular monster came out in like 2018 or 19 ..was a badass song though
Hardy sounds terrible live. At least Ronnie can sing even tho that's not saying much.
I love Skillet but I cannot enjoy their new album. It sounds like butt rock music. Alien Youth, Collide, Comatose, and Awake will always be their best work!
Thank god I'm not the only person who didn't like the new wage war album. I stopped listening to wage war because of that album.
I can’t imagine being in a massively successful band and making fun of my fans for being upset that they didn’t get to see my band play.
Like. What.
FIR has a couple of ok songs, I do like the song Popular Monster, but I can honestly say that I didn't have any interest in checking out the entire album. Looking forward to the top albums of 2024 video, hoping that Imminence and Chaosbay (if you don't know who they are, I highly recommend) make the list.
I know that highly irresponsible behind you there is definitely in my top five best of 2024!
Falling in reverse is in the top 5 bands of 2024. He stands against that community and that's good.
I got sick of pop punk back into 90s i.e. Green Day and things such as sleep tolken simply have began to deeply annoy me .
Great video.
I want to recommend 2 vinyl releases to you. Medieval Death LP and free DVD and the Mordicus “Rights ‘n Trials” LP. If you want to know more Google [Medieval Death LP and free DVD + Mordicus “Rights ‘n Trials” LP], then check audio, videos etc.
If you are to bored to search and want the direct link, let me know m/
If Whitechapel has tought us anything in 2024, its that you can come back hard from a very questionable few years. Wage War is probably going to come back strong as FUCK with their next album. I will hold my hopes high.
I like "Quit" from Hardy. There's about 5 songs (out of the 13) that i really like. That being said though, I'm an avid black and death metal fan so…
Kind of glad I never bought a ticket to a FIR concert with how many they have canceled/been removed from. But yeah, looking back, their newer music is a bit petty and repetitive. May keep one or two songs of theirs in my playlist, but some of them either don’t fit my taste or aren’t that great. The song with Jelly Roll sucks in my opinion. I didn’t want to listening to it for months after it released before I was finally like “screw it”. The only okay part was the guitar solo.
Edit from like 15 minutes after originally posting comment: Yeah, originally I liked FIR for the darker feel of the song Popular Monster (none of the older ones really, too much autotune and stuff), but they’ve become a lot softer since then, so I’ll probably keep Popular Monster and Watch the World Burn because the chorus at the end of that song is pretty cool.
I met Ronnie Radke in 2019 at the LA County fair and hes the same as the way you describe him. I also saw Mōtley Crūe a 2 years ago and yeah idk why they released cancelled.
Falling in Reverse, because apparently somebody went “what if Adin Ross was 40, got a guy killed and fronted Bring Me the Horizon?”
Ronnie’s Adele wannabe cover of Last Resort is terrible, along with All My Life being part of the proof all the bad edgelords pogoed Jelly Roll around before Eminem got him on a good track.
Also, All My Life is a country song with a metalcore breakdown half hazardly shoved in… and terrible at that. I like Ronnie. But boy does he have some stinkers.
I really enjoyed Wage War's Manic so I had to listen to Stigma and yeah it doesn't even sound like Wage War at all. Magnetic is a solid song but the rest of the album is lack of creativity just phoned in Metal Octane butt rock with a modern take on it. Even though it's only over 31 minutes it definitely feels a longer. Hopefully their next album they bounce back and as for Falling In Reverse yeah the jokes just keep writing themselves.
