????Description: I Bought the NEW “Studio Session” Les Paul – Is It Worth It?
In late 2024, Gibson launched the new “Studio Session” Les Paul. The name feels a bit like an afterthought, as this is basically a gloss-finished “Modern Studio” with an AA top and new pickups, but I give them props for trying out a new naming structure instead of “Modern Studio AA Gloss.” This video is designed to help you determine some of the differences between the “Les Paul Studio” “Les Paul Studio Modern” and “Les Paul Studio Session” to ensure you pick the right one for you.

  • I haven't played one of these, but I like the idea. Flame top, ebony fretboard, and fretboard binding are all desirable features for me. Much more affordable than a Standard or Traditional. I don't care for the coil splitting options and wouldn't use it, but it doesn't hurt that they are there.

  • I had the same issue on my Studio with the rough pick guard. It's so rough at the top screw that it marred the finish. Super disappointing G.

  • i got mine and it was missing the push pull tone pots ????
i contacted gibson service but havent heard back yet.

  • bought and returned . Switch didnt work in middle position ,scratchy pots . Neck profile wasnt my cup on tea . action way to high … pass

  • For me, carved-top LPs just don’t look right without top body binding. Specials look fine but I’ve never liked Studio aesthetics.

  • I got the studio session in this color, it plays and sounds fantastic and qc was actually surprisingly good (comparing to core prs)

  • Great review! I picked one up last month… After an extensive online search for the best looking one I could find (Bourbon or Honey Burst), I made a deal with a small store on the East Coast: Incredible looking Bourbon Burst (best top out of 30+ guitars) with nice back and neck / 8.5 lbs… made me a deal at $1,799 delivered (Oregon). I have owned Gibson LP Standards, Custom, Classic, Studio Premium Plus, Traditional and 2 MIJ Epiphone Elitists. This particular guitar is built, finished and assembled better than any of them. Once adjusted, the 57s sound amazing!
With this model, for me, the Studio is now a full equal to The Standard, Classic and Custom. The tone, look feel and playability (and mojo) are all there. Well aware I could have found a mint Standard for similar money; I am so happy that this was my choice! Added a hard case. Done. Regarding the push/pulls… I'll never use them which is Ok with me. The good news is that the pots are all CTS and all have the same nice feel and decent taper (no slack). I may tack solder in a couple of treble bleeds which, if handled with care, looks like it could be done (and undone) without having to remove the PCB. 100% happy with my purchase of this guitar. I have been nearly unable to put it down since it was delivered 3 weeks ago.

  • Love the inlay logo. I have a rule… no screened Gibson logos. So no SG Special for me.

  • I find a compound radius to be uncomfortable
I have different guitars with a different radius, and I can adapt to them, and like them all.
But compound radius would need to be more gradual than any I have tried and then, maybe.

  • While that screw hole damage from the pickguard is disappointing, it wouldn’t bother me. That grain deserves to be seen in full, so pickguard off for me.

  • I tried one. Great feel and humbucker sound. Unfortunately the coil split/tap sound, to me, is just muddy and almost out of phase. I don’t get what Gibson were aiming for

  • The Good : Trans-Ebony finish (with Black Chrome hardware is the Best)!!! & or Honeyburst finish (w/ chrome hardware). '57 CLASSIC Pick-Ups!!! Lose (for this model / the bad etc.) the PCB / Push-Pull electronics…. You're right on the money Troglydude & In other words –to best use the '57's –equip it with the same 500k pots (without all the digital stuff) & (at least) use Orange Drop capacitors…. And a hardshell case is not totally out of line for this price-point….. Maybe I'm dreaming…. Gibson probably won't do that…. It's the best of the "Studios" at this point in time…..

  • I have found that the position of the body "L" bracket mounting hole is crucial if you have a top divot. The closer the hole is to where the body meets the binding, even with the felt, you can still have a mark. I have a Les Paul with the hole in the middle of the binding, no divot or rub mark.

  • Absolutely unnecessary thing. Gibson is starting to lose focus, again… How many tiny Les Paul iterations do we need??? Leave the Les Paul ALONE. START NEW THINGS!!!! The Les Paul will always sale. Diversify the offerings.

  • Considering I could buy an excellent used ebony Standard for around $2,200, I'd go that route unless I was just absolutely ga-ga over a specific top.

  • Way too much money. Gibson forgot they make instruments that people want to play guitars, not just collect everyone created.

  • That black gives me Joe Perry Les Paul vibes (aesthetically). As far as the Studio vs The One vs Modern vs Sedsion, I like the idea of having a lot of choices but agree with many that the studio lineup needs to be streamlined or revisited. Imagine if they also still had the Tributes around too ????

  • its hard justify buying a pricy standard or custom when they have so many lower models that are arguably better to play. thr split coil, phasing the cheaper models and the fact they have better heals and such just make them better players. i have an old custom but never play it live, i would totally play a studio or classic live do to the coil choices. plus they often weigh less.

  • I really appreciate your efforts! I need some advice: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?

  • This particular finish reminds me alot of the 90s Joe Perry Les Paul. Also, I think the hardware is black nickel and not black chrome, which is blacker. Black nickel is more of a dark gunmetal color.

  • Trogly- the reason you don’t measure half resistance in the split coil mode is because Gibson uses a capacitor to connect the midpoint of the two humbucker coils to ground. Capacitors will block the dc current from your ohm meter. This was explained in a Gibson video with their master luthier during session launch.

  • Gibson is selling a guitar? Queue the tears. Personally, I would pay more for neck binding. I had a studio about 25 years ago and sold it cause it was too heavy. Now I just play specials and SGs. Rock on, Trogly.

  • I’ve seen guitars with reveal binding and it looks awesome! They have covered up too much of the maple top.

  • It’s a shame they’re phasing out the 490R and 498T pick up set in production models. They’re still the best sounding post PAF, Loller etc. Just don’t like any of the Burst Buckers
