First Time Hearing MILLENCOLIN! Bass Teacher REACTS to “No Cigar”

➡️ The votes are in, and our Patreon community’s top pick last month was “No Cigar” by Millencolin! I’ve long been hearing how much of a staple they are in the punk scene, and was quite surprised to learn that they’re based out of Sweden! I discuss why the chord progression is a bit unique from a music-theory standpoint, the subtle arrangement moves that make the song flow so well, how the secondary guitar layers slightly darken the song’s feel, and much more! I wished I had a little more to talk about from a bass perspective…but what’s there not to love about a gritty, driving bass line in a punk song?

  • First time here. It is actually cool hearing a bass master give his insight on a new [to him] song! I think leads tend to like music just for the sake of liking music, but bassists are different. They're coming from a place that's, at its very least, less pretentious. I'm a [former] lead ????

  • Great song and so nostalgic. Would love to hear you break down the bass on Conrad by Jets to Brazil. Love the bass in that song.

  • I like how he covered a punk song at one point and now everyone in the punk community came out and is shoving punk songs down his throat 😀 keep on doing it! Edit: Favorite music channel since then 😀

  • why recommend Milencolin to a bass teacher? don't get me wrong I love them much but there's nothing new at the bass plays and nothing we can get more than from all that punk bands we love or hate for some reasons…

  • If you are in the mood to stick around Europe, there are Guano Apes, Captain Everything, Consumed, Capdown and loads of others whose names I'm too drunk to remember.
